From my experience there is no such thing as common sense anymore, we are teaching society not to use it. Have a think about how these guns become illegal, you'll find that at one stage some if not most were actually legally obtained. How do they get into the hands of those that use them against us? Putting them out there everywhere just increases the possibility of them being used against you. I was always taught as a youngster the best way to control a hazard is to remove it all together not try to control it. Either way your comment about legally owned guns are "rarely" used in any crime shows how people are ignorant (I don't mean that as a personal attack against you) if a legally owned gun is used just once against someone then that is once too many and something that could have been avoided, think about how you would feel if that once was against a love one in your life how would you feel?

Hear is a point i put forward in my above comment, one person i know has had a sliding (lockable yes) tray mounted under his ute tray in which he carries a shot gun and a rifle just incase he might need to use them, now he is not a farmer he works in trade so why not have this in a fully secure gun designed safe?? Stuff like that is how the crim's get them to begin with
As above restrict the type of people to the guns

Not related but i have been connected to people who have lost someone to guns, not crime as such but stupidity, I know it is not this simple and i do believe that some people should not be allowed access at all but by the same token should we get rid of cars because of all the hoons on the road? I know people affected by stupid driving too and illegal drivers you see that on the t.v. all the time too.
I don't know the proper answer but i don't think taking the tools guns or cars out of the hands of the "responsible people" is the answer

Gun ownership is like being a politician ... the ones who want a gun are the ones who you can least afford to let have a gun.
Used to be funny walking past Mick Smith's (a gun shop) in town, and seeing all the freaks playing with themselves as they stared lustfully through the shop window ...

Hear from a London copper, they have no guns....

What's wrong with the world? Uninformed opinion.

Click through and read the whole thing, it's worth it.

This is reality not some fantasy land that people think they "need guns" in to "defend" themselves.

I Was A Cop In A Country With No Guns: 6 Startling Truths

I spent nearly a decade as a cop on the streets of one of the biggest cities in the world, dealing with violent dangerous criminals. Plot twist: I did it without carrying anything more lethal than diet mace and a metal stick. When I talk about The Job, as we all call it, the first thing people ask is whether it's dangerous. The only honest answer to that is "It depends."

I worked my whole career in Hackney, a borough of London that has something of a reputation. If you've watched Luther at any point, you know the area. Almost all the backdrops Idris Elba smolders his way through are in Hackney. Universally known as Crackney, it's less than eight square miles that are home to more than 260,000 people. That's a greater population density than in New York, L.A., or Lagos, for that matter. All these people are pi**ed off at somebody -- and a lot of the time, it's us po-po.

On occasion, there is an actual shooting, and then we have a bit more to do. But the active shooters and the mass shootings are so vanishingly rare as to be negligible. This is, I believe, wholly due to the fact that the UK had the tragedy of the Dunblane shooting, in which an unhinged shooter killed 16 children and one adult. Almost immediately, we banned all handguns in private hands and severely restricted sales, use, and carry. That was 20 years ago, and there hasn't been a mass shooting since. Of course, this means our Olympic performance in the shooting events has suffered, but, do you know, I'm willing to pay that price.

I love the job and think I always will, and I love the fact that I never strapped on a gun and never had to make that kind of decision in the heat of the moment. Guns make every decision binary -- shoot or don't shoot. They leave no room for doubt or other options, other points of view. Guns reduce very complicated decisions to the simplest of choices, and that is something I am eternally glad I didn't have to be a part of.

Look I do agree no guns no shootings, my problem is social rights.
Let's get rid of cars idiots kill with them. In Melbourne apex gang is causing havoc they are Sudanese based gang so let's get rid of them, etc etc there are way too many idiot gun owners but if the gun group was based in a country we would be getting called racist.

give it 10-20 years and non-self driving cars will probably be a privilege not afforded all people.

Let that one sink in, I hope traffic branch and the speeding ticket addicted state govt's are looking to the driverless future - fact is the world changes.

For all the hyperbole about the here and now, the world moves on - usually it takes longer than your lifetime to see the really big stuff, but give it maybe 3 generations from now and people will think the people of today were akin to cavemen.

Extract from a letter to the editor in today's West

"The tolerance of the intolerable through the lens of political correctness is utterly corrosive."
