Another problem is if you had to use your concealed weapon to end another persons life...
Could you do it? Could you risk a shot into a crowd of unarmed civilians? Most gun owners couldn't hit a stationary target at 20 paces. All these action movies where the hero can hit a moving target at night from 400m away is total bullshit.
However these sort of images/movies/stories trick the everyday gun owner into thinking their a sharpshooter....

Most of the gun crimes Raj posted are from American cites with very, very high crimes rates. Throw in the ability to have a "concealed carry" permit and sure, sometimes an armed stranger "could" stop a massacre from happening. Whilst I'm not one of those people who think all guns should be banned, the real problem is the ease of access to firearms in America. The sheer amount of money the manufactures make and pay the American government means that nothing will be done to stop this anytime soon...
Also, how many massacres where started when a person got a hold of their parents registered gun stash? No amount of concerned citizens with their own personal guns is ever gonna stop that.

No matter what is done however, the criminals will still be able to access a firearm with just the sheer volume of guns worldwide. Its really gone too far to try and stop now...
Even with the "amnesty" we had here in Australia - how many crims simply didn't hand in their firearms and just hid them away?

True, all the argument in the world isn't going to fix it. Still hear in Australian news of drugs raids etc where they have found weapons. Sometimes these are from crimes 20+ years ago.

They will always be out there, and they will always be available through smuggling. Because if they can get in kilo's of various drugs into the country, then various weapons isn't that much of a stretch either.

Agree. I was required to be 'familiar' with a 9mm pistol, rather than 'proficient', my first shot was from waist height to a target 20 metres away. I bloody near shot my foot off.
Even with 'familiarity' and standing, aiming, and holding it with both hands, it was had to hit the target figure with what would be a 'deadly' shot.
Feel sorry for the female cop in Hornsby a few weeks ago who manged to slow the offender, but wounded innocent bystanders.

Oops, think I sent this thread "off track"! :D

What gets me is France has armed cops/soldiers walking around everywhere with automatic weapons, how did this idiot even get on the boulevard without eating a lot of lead?

Interestingly enough this topic came up at Friday beers.

Think it's a coincidence that man was in a race to build the smallest phones with tiny screens right up until said man realised we could watch porn on them? Hello my 6" iphone!
