One thing I learnt bolts are measured from the top of the head. So if you call them measure the whole length otherwise it will be too long as has happened to me before.

Every Bunnings has a thread checker.
It will give an idea of what you want.

Then get in touch with BoltKing in Qld. They will sort you out once you know the thread, length, bolt grade 8.8 indicates high tensile.

They have been fantastic so far for me. I’m in WA and it’s often easier to get from them than anyone locally.

One of the handiest tools I’ve bought in ages is one of these.

This looks as good or better
The female thread will be underneath these.

I'm buying a tool trolley soon so I'll add something like this to it.

I'm also 60% sure that the bolt I need is M8, 70 to 75mm, fine thread.
Just need to Check it all though.

I'll keep them in mind if the shops around me aren't able to help me.

Most on Commodores will be like M8 1.25mm thread or M10 x 1.25mm thread.

Also most bolts can be bought at local SuperCrap once you’ve been to Hammerbarn to use their stupid thread checker.

I'll guarantee those kits have every size except what you're looking for...
I use micrometers or calipers, and thread pitch gauges.
Recent tap purchases were M6x1.0mm, M10x1.0mm and M12x1.0mm.

I totally agree. I'm usually deciding between metric/standard/BSF
Whitworth is basically the same as unified standard.
The other month I did all my checks and it was a BSC (British standard Cycle. On an old triumph)

In this case we know Willy has a metric bolt, but I agree, measuring is the only way. Especially if we start dealing with pipe threads also (BSPT and NPT)

Take your sample to a bolt shop. They should hopefully have one the same length. The only thing will likely be is that the size spanner needed will be a 14mm.
Just some quick info, when measuring a bolt, measure the thread end as the head has nothing to do with it. Try to use "high tensile" for automotive applications. If not sure stainless steel Bolt's have similar properties and don't corrode. But are not always interchangeable !. Threads could be imperial, metric or SAE be sure it's the right one!

I'll use this to measure my bolt.
Excluding the Flange and Head height.
