Again you show your arrogance, tradies get good money because they do the jobs you wouldn't do mate.

To be fair there are plenty of mobile mechanics around without workshops and tons of tools.

Yes, I'm about to start doing mobile A/C for next summer.

But the comparison is like 5% of the industry is mobile compared to like 95% in the construction sector.

I“m a purchasing manager and a product specialist for a business area that holds around one million dollars worth of stock at any one time.

You could easily get enough tools and a van together to be independent for a fraction of that amount.

The suspension shop I worked for when I was a 1st year had more stock lol.

Mechanics don’t need a union as they can easily spin the tools by themselves as an independent. Different story to most employees who can’t just up stumps and work independently.

There is a union for mechanics....But old one eyed refuses to accept one exists.

And like most industries, there are unions but it is optional if you join......

Bull **** mate.
We have the highest overheads over any trade like sparkies or plumbers, we need entire work shops full of specialised tools.
Plumber's and sparkies, chippies ect can just buy a hiace and some tools and they're set.

You can do the majority of jobs with everyday tools...It's just young blokes like you don't use upstairs enough to improvise.

Oh and yes, there are some specialised tools that you can't improvise to get the job done properly....

Can you stop being a fukwit, it would be appreciated.

You said you have 1 million worth of stock, we probably had about that much, we used to get a pallet in each two weeks to 1 month from the Keysbrough wearhouse.
We used to turn over about 2 million a year and we had two stores each doing 2 mil.
Well actually we had 4 stores in suspension, then 2 in automotive, now that company has 3 suspension shops, 4 automotive shops and 4 tyre shops. Plus the owner had multiple smash shops.

Stop posting B/S up..

Not that long ago, I posted a simple question up to do with a crashed car and you couldn't answer it

Then you post up, I can't remember too much about suspension stuff because you haven't done it for X amount of years.

Any person that does mechanical work for a living deals with suspensions, along with motors and gearboxes.

Stock held has SFA to do with tools, which is what this started with

Mechanics tried union-ising in the early 2000's or late 90s and it basically fell over because not enough of them could be bothered turning up to organise it, more or less.

I don’t know why we have a construction union, probably because the LNP haven’t made a law against it yet?

Tradies are some of the best paid people in the country and it’s because they have some of the best bargaining power out of any workers. If the employer won’t pay a fair wage they just go onto to tools themselves as an independent.
You have little understanding of reality. I was in NZ when National introduced the employment contract. Wages nosedived over night and haven't recovered. In the 80's prior to the employment contract act wages for a carpenter were about the same as Australia. Now a carpenter working on a construction site is paid about $30 an hour. When I left over 23 years ago I was on $17 an hour. The company I worked for was decidedly dodgy so I lost out big time. Only add on was 6% holiday pay, so no redundancy, no overtime, no travel. No Union.

Compare Australia, same job. I am not totally up with the play but over $50 an hour, about $50 a day travel, portable redundancy, 17.5% holiday pay, double time overtime, 5 day week. A lot better super.

What would you choose?

The cost of building a house in Australia when I last checked was cheaper than NZ. How could that be? NZ is decidedly smaller and has abundant forestry for housing with a lot less transport costs.

Edit. I forgot site allownce. Unheard of in NZ. Queens wharf is at the top end of the scale, $9 an hour. Take home pay around $2500 a week. You decide which one you prefer. I'm not sure (liar) but there are those working on that site thought it was too much and gave some back.
