    SSV 'atari' gauges not working?

So, bit of an update, there's definitely no access under the speaker cover, although I didn't get to the point of removing the speaker. I decided to try a battery disconnect reset before pulling anything else off, and it worked! Gauge came on this morning like nothing ever happened. So if this...

    SSV 'atari' gauges not working?

Thanks fella's. Going to have a look at it through the centre speaker hole and see if I can get to the connector, just in case something's happened there. Don't want to start blindly pulling the dash apart 'til I find another display.

    SSV 'atari' gauges not working?

Had a look, seems to mostly be about clusters. Does have one for fitting HSV gauges to a calais, but the calais dash is different (not one piece like the others). Can't find any mention of a separate control unit, so will ignore that. I have found a part number for the 3 gauge display, 92228599...

    SSV 'atari' gauges not working?

G'day all, Noticed yesterday the 'atari' / SIC gauges in my SSV are not displaying, as in the screen won't power up. Everything else is working fine, but not the SIC display. I've had a search and like the idea of putting in a 3 gauge version, and I understand the oil temp gauge won't work...

    Ve2006ssv vs 2009 MY9.5

Sorry yes USB is series 2 only with the IQ head unit. Definitely has the black dash & steering wheel trim, and gloss black shifter surround (for the auto) instead of silver.

    Ve2006ssv vs 2009 MY9.5

There are quite a few other differences, the later model has silver steering wheel & dash trim instead of black, also will have reversing sensors and USB (wish mine had both of these). The earlier one will have the L98 270kw engine, the later one if auto will have L76 with AFM and 10kw less. The...

    Repairing Leather Steering Wheel Wear?

I've seen the kit VRSenator posted used, it does seem very effective, it was more expensive than that though. But there is no colour (that I found anyway) which will match our interiors, so I went the replacement route. If you got standard replacement stuff you could get a new wheel and shifter...

Recommend a tuner on Bris northside

Why would they scan and/or check the tune on your car for free? That's like asking a mechanic to tell you what's wrong with your car for free, then taking it somewhere else or doing it yourself. They're a business after all.

Recommend a tuner on Bris northside

No idea what PowerTorque would charge, as it's already been tuned they might have to look at it first. But whatever it is, it's worth it. Give Shaun at PT a call 3881 3999 or email [email protected] Don't know if they lock their tunes, I've never needed or wanted to take my car...

Powertorque in Brendale. Excellent work, service and reputation. Probably not cheaper if that's what you're after, but well worth it IMO.

Brand new dry leather steering wheel

Definitely get some conditioner on it. I did the same thing recently but gave it 3 applications of conditioner before installing, and another one since. Will probably do it every couple of weeks til it wears in.

    AUD Setup

SD Volume is speed dependent, so it just turns the volume up and down at set speeds. You can adjust the level to change how much it increases the volume. Doesn't change anything else. The DDL will slightly lower the volume if it detects distortion (if you have it too loud).

    Cleaning and protecting leather interior

I understand these leathers have a coating over the top, but if that's the case though, why do the leather conditioners make such a huge difference? My rear seat for example was far softer, 'richer' feeling and the colour was deeper after the second application of the conditioner, and it had not...

    Cleaning and protecting leather interior

When I first got mine I used meguiars cloth & trim cleaner to clean them, followed by meguiars gold class cleaner & conditioner. It works very well and made a huge difference, but it's a bit of a pain in the arse because of the perforated leather, and gets stuck in the stitching as well. Also...

    V8 VE SS or V8 Audi S4

I did consider an S4 or A6 before I got my SSV, they're a very nice looking car and sound good, BUT the reliability is not much improved over the Commodore. Sounds like BS, but it's true. A quick look at the audi forums shows they have common problems with timing chains (which is a huge, engine...

    HSV steering Wheel ?

I went for the HSVi one with the red highilights, also because I already have that style of shifter and want the leather to match (dimples instead of holes-much easier to clean & condition too). Not as flat as the HSV one on the bottom, but not totally round either like the original.

Game of Thrones **SPOILER FRIENDLY THREAD**

What's the 'gravedigger theory'? Haven't heard this one, something to do with the hound? I thought it was a good episode, I was 99% sure they would leave tyrion/tywin/shae til next season, glad they didn't. The Stannis bit was awesome, but they didn't show Thorne at castle black after the...

Game of Thrones **SPOILER FRIENDLY THREAD**

I was really hoping they would end it with Tyrion killing Shae and Tywin, then escaping/fleeing, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Although in the trailer we do see Tyrion in his cell (could just be where he finds out about his first wife?), and Varys makes an appearance, so who...

Multiple VE Questions - Promise I Searched!

Monroe GT sport are pretty good for reasonable money, and are shortened to suit lowered springs. As for the key, that is strange, could be a problem with the actual switch rather than the button. Might have to get a new one from Holden.

    Ve 2010 Coolant Colour

AFAIK they can be run on the green coolant, but it cannot be mixed with red, and won't last as long (usually 2 years less between changes). I would be doing as everyone has said, flush and replace. Having a dealer (holden or otherwise) service your car is no excuse for not doing basic regular...

Multiple VE Questions - Promise I Searched!

    1) 99% guarantee ride quality will get worse when lowered, especially with standard shocks and 20" wheels. Might not be unbearable, but definitely better to change the shocks for a set of short travel ones, it'll handle better and ride better with those rather than the originals. 2) too much...

Game of Thrones **SPOILER FRIENDLY THREAD**

The fight was pretty intense, the rest of the episode sucked though. Nobody cares about grey worm & missandei, and what was that bullshit about squashing beetles? They could have made the fight twice as long and left that crap out. Too expensive that way I suppose.

    buying a used VE.SS sedan

There's plenty of VE-specific things to look for as well. Harmonic balancer wobble, lifter noise, air con belt loose or jumping under revs (fixed on later models), water or moisture in passenger side foot wells (under carpet), knocking from front suspension, and if auto, flaring on 2-3 shift...

Game of Thrones **SPOILER FRIENDLY THREAD**

Yeah I was waiting for the 'only cat' line, and it never came. Will definitely be interesting how they explain Lysa's death, they're going so far from the books it's impossible to know. Which might be what they're trying to do. I'm waiting to see what happens with the mountain's body after the...

    SSV Voltage question

It will only be on 14v +/- while charging, if it drops to 12 (it will be 12.7 or so) that basically means the battery has enough charge, and there isn't enough load on the battery or charging system to necessitate charging the battery. So in other words, it's perfectly normal. If your gauge...

How to test VE SS L98 coil pacls

they mean between the 2 terminals on the coils. This is not always an indicator though (unless it is open circuit), but if you test all 8 and one is far out from the others, it would be the one to start with.

Doesn't seem to have projector headlights either (guessing from 2nd pic), I would say it's an SS with a badge? Could be wrong. Still looks good anyway.

How about some more info? How much worse is that compared to your normal consumption? What is your average speed (shown on the same screen on the dash)?

How to test VE SS L98 coil pacls

They can't really be tested without an oscilloscope or a specific coil testing tool. If you fire the coil without a plug or a lead on it you will damage the coil, or at least shorten it's life. One slightly dodgy, and time-consuming, way, is to buy one coil and swap it around until (or if) your...

Intake valve carbon build-up, is it normal?

Surely not? I don't know of anywhere in the developed world you can still use leaded petrol in cars. That is what I'd expect to see in a well-used SIDI engine with **** fuel, **** oil and no maintenance, but not so much in a V8.
  38. V

    Metho in fuel?

Personally, I would not use e10 for anything, especially prolonged use. It (the ethanol) is extremely corrosive and can cause major long-term problems. Yes, I know, the yellow sticker on your fuel flap says E10 compatible, but is it really worth the risk? If you want to clean your injectors on...

    X force twin 3" (V8)- add a H-pipe?

Not yet tuned to suit, just the exhaust at this stage. I think I'll go with Big-Al's advice for now, wait and see if the new cat affects things. Might look into pirate's advice in the future though, you certainly know your stuff.

    X force twin 3" (V8)- add a H-pipe?

G'day all, I've had an X-force twin 3" cat-back for around 18 months now (mild steel), and added HSV headers and ballistic cats around 6 months ago. It sounded great, I was very happy with the sound, but once the headers & cats have carbon'd up, its lost a bit of the 'growl' and obviously a...
