    VF Commodore Production Video

After watching these videos, it saddens me to see all the workforce skills, engineering and technical know-how, and robot infrastructure that have been lost to Australia. The VF was a good product for Australian conditions. It's a shame we don't have the population numbers to justify having our...

    Boot lid supports.

You can get generic struts from any motor supplies store such as Supercheap Auto or ebay, but I actually prefer to have the boot just pop open and not go up all the way by itself. It keeps the boot's contents from prying eyes, and also means stuff doesn't get so wet if it's raining.

    Battery issue

If it's going flat every few days there's obviously a parasitic drain somewhere, e.g. a light staying on when it's supposed to be off. An auto electrician should be able to hook up a meter to the battery to find the drain without too much trouble. And I don't recall the battery draining being a...

A/C Off Due to High Engine Temp

You're welcome -- that's why we're here -- and I hope you sort it out. Don't forget to let us know if you do, and what the cause was. As an aside, I must say that only using the AC infrequently can give rise to problems in itself. The handbook recommends leaving the AC on 'auto', and the system...

    Rough idle -Spark Plugs?

It could be multitude of things -- plugs, coilpacks, injectors, airleak, even a faulty ecu (as happened to me on my VZ). You really need to get it checked by a mechanic or auto-electrician with a scan tool. Oh, and my V6 VF uses around 12l / 100km in town and as little as 6.7l / 100km on a long...

No such light (i.e. under arm rest) in my 2014 VF Calais V S1.

    Windscreen wipers.

Some years ago I replaced my original AC Delco wipers with Tridon ones, after finding out how much the dealership wanted for the AC ones. The Tridon have been really good, with no complaints from me. Whilst shopping in Costco I saw some very reasonably priced Michelin wipers, so I bought a pair...

    VF Weird Noise at Idle

Sounds ok to me. A little clattery perhaps but I didn't hear anything untoward. What mileage has the engine done?

    VF Calais suspension differences

A word of explanation for those of you unfortunate enough not to live in South Australia. What cammedclubby is saying is not that he has been accused of being a member of the degenerate Hellfire Club, or that he has attempted to take over the British throne. Instead, he has had his beloved (and...

Vf driver's electric seat not working

Ahh! The battery was changed -- that's a little detail you might have mentioned in your original post. All sorts of shenanigans can happen when the battery is changed on modern vehicles if it's not done correctly (e.g. without a memory retainer). I would suggest either using an OBD2 scan tool...

    Control arm bushes

FWIW, I replaced my worn out OEM front sway bar links with Nolathane ones some time ago, and didn't notice any difference in the ride or handling (except the annoying 'clonk' was gone).

Blank MyLink screen after dead battery? Try this...

I realise this may have been covered previously, but the info is usually buried deep within the thread and not readily visible. I'm hoping my recent experience will benefit others, especially as our VFs are getting on a bit now. After 9 years of faithful and uneventful service, my original...

2015 SV6 - Check Oil When Recently Serviced

It may be that the service interval notification was incorrectly set at your last service. The message displays when the next 15,000 km interval scheduled service is approaching. If there's nothing wrong with your oil level you can try removing the message by using the following procedure (for...

A/C Off Due to High Engine Temp

Commiserations Mark -- sounds like you've had a very frustrating time lately. I'd be interested to know how many kms your car has done, and where exactly the original coolant leaks were coming from to warrant the thermostat and water pump being replaced. From your description of the symptoms...

    Random Misfire

Just a suggestion -- faulty crankshaft position sensor and/or wiring? An auto electrician (or good mechanic) should be able to check for this fairly easily using an oscilloscope-type scanner.

    Front Chin Lip Spoiler

As Imoengnr says, it is a rub strip to protect the underside of the front valance when parking too close to a concrete wheel stop in a parking spot. Many of these wheel stop kerbs are higher than the underside of the valance, and can cause considerable damage if you just drive forwards until...

Dented oil filter - use it or toss it ? (AcDelco vs Ryco)

From all I've experienced, seen and read about oil filters, I think the most important thing I've learned is that provided you buy a recognised brand, changing the filter and oil at the recommended interval (or shorter) is king. Cardboard end caps or metal end caps, glued or non-glued, paper...

VF II brake pedal going hard after sitting

Quite normal. Mine does it after a couple of days of not being used. So long as you can depress the pedal enough to start the car, and when moving the brakes don't feel hard to apply or spongy, you should be ok.

    VF evoke no reverse lights

Hmmm, after I posted my previous reply to you I checked my own owner's handbook, and I must confess I didn't find it very helpful regarding the reversing lights. I had assumed (dangerous, I know) that the lighting fuses would be clearly labelled, but Holden being Holden, not so. Maybe the...

    VF evoke no reverse lights

Have you checked the relevant fuse (see owner's manual for which one)? If the fuse is ok, it could be a problem with either the transmission control module (TCM) or the body control module (BCM). When the gear selector is in the Reverse position and the engine is ON, the TCM sends a message to...

    Report a car sales yard

Whilst I'm not naive enough to believe this sort of thing didn't go on (and probably still does), it saddens me greatly to think that dealer principals and/or workshop owners could just blithely rip people off in this way. But then, I always look for the good in people......

Sudden Loss of Power Steering WHEN DRIVING

Could you explain a bit further what you mean when you say "I lost complete control of any power steering movement"? My understanding is that with the system on the VF, even though you might lose power assistance and the steering obviously becomes much heavier, you still should be able to steer...

VF boot sedan meant to fully spring open?

Also, as struts age and lose gas pressure, their effectiveness changes with the ambient air temperature. Cold winter temps means less lifting ability, warmer summer temps increases it. My sedan bootlid (no spoiler) just pops open in winter, but will open fully on a hot summer's day. When it...

Problem with VF Commodore stock while reversing.

Hi grahm_, welcome to the forum. I've noticed a similar thing on my 2014 VF1, but it only happens for a short time when the car is stone cold and I accelerate forwards in first gear up a steep hill after exiting my driveway. It doesn't happen when travelling downhill, which leads me to...

VF2 SS Redline Ute - Total Failure / Will Not Start

Plus check to see if there's a parasitic current leak (e.g. glovebox or boot light staying on) which could eventually drain the battery.

    One remote stopped working

There is a slot in the centre console in which to place the remote if the remote's battery is low and the remote is not detected. The slot is next to the USB port (lift up the armrest to see it). Not sure if you can start the car like this if the remote is completely u/s.

Have you tried holding down the Start button (without foot on brake or clutch) for 10 seconds to get into "Service Mode", then doing the 'push the accelerator three times quickly' thing?

    VF Sedan Tail Light Globe

No, it doesn't. You can access the globes from inside the boot, but you have to remove some of the boot trim first (see attached image from owner's manual). If you have a manual, it would be a good idea to read it -- it's surprising what you can find hidden in its pages.

    REDLINE VF DEMISTER NOT WORKING

Have you tried cleaning the inside of the windscreen (when dry) to remove any haze that might be deposited on it? Sometimes fumes given off by the upholstery when sitting in the sun can deposit on the windscreen, causing a permanent haze effect.
  35. Sir Les

    REDLINE VF DEMISTER NOT WORKING

The demister will not clear condensation on the outside of the windscreen (say from being parked overnight out in the open). Only the wipers will clear that. The demister is for clearing condensation on the inside of the windscreen. I leave my aircon system in the auto setting all the time...

    car steers left after alignment.

Based on my experience with my 2014 VF, the 'feel' of the steering is unlike any other car I have driven. I put it down to the fact that it has electric power assist, whereas all my other power assisted cars before that were hydraulic, which seem to be more forgiving of minor road imperfections...

    Lane Departure Warning - LDW

The main thing to take away from the above is that you won't get a warning below 56 km/h. Try drifting across a lane line above that speed and see what happens -- but make sure there's no conflicting traffic or officers of the law about when you do it. ;)

How do I disable valet mode

    1. Ensure the battery is fully charged. 2. Try starting the car using the remote start button on the key fob (if you have one). 3. If that fails, try starting the car with the key fob in the receptacle in the centre arm rest container. 4. If that fails, leave the car overnight before trying...

    Washing and polishing your car

When I was a young man I lavished a huge amount of care, time and attention on my various cars, none of which were particularly expensive or interesting. I would regularly wash and (occasionally) polish them. Metallic or pearlescent paint finishes were unheard of at that time. Now I am much...
