    Where are the VXR owners?

Wait for a 2018, get a 'demo' registered after July 2018 to get the 5-year warranty. Wait for the xmas-NYE break and have 'cash' ready to roll. Set your price, make the offer to every dealer that has one (let them know you're talking to other dealers) and you should get the deal you're looking...

    Bought a ZB

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few cars ago at a local (GC) dealer - kept me waiting for 45 minutes, I went back in, grabbed my keys back (they were supposed to be valuing the car - they hadn't) and two weeks later drove the same car from another dealer right up to the front door...

    Bought a ZB

S sounds like my experience with Brighton; dismissive, uninterested, "can't possibly reduce the price further" - yet two weeks later it was over $1000 less... Just bought one elsewhere. :)

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

I'm not having a go, but expecting $20000 off the RRP and then expecting good resale seems a little unrealistic. The massive discounting due to poor sales is what kills its resale value. I don't think you can have it both ways. :) ^^^ This ^^^ :)

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

Yep. So it's 'only' an Opel, but where else are you going to get a German-built V6 AWD for the price..? At the full RRP of $53k, it's reasonable value, at $30k less than 12 months old (less than $25k for an RS sedan), it's an absolute bargain! You'd be looking at at least double the price for...

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

Could happen - GM could drop the Holden badge, import SUVs (they'e pretty much killed the passenger vehicle market in the US), or just pull out altogether - after all Vauxhall & Opel were much bigger than Holden, and GM offloaded them. We have an over-supplied market with way too many brands...

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

I'm curious how he can claim a five-year trade-in value for a car that was released at the end of 2017 - so the oldest is only two years old. There's no reference on RedBook to these figures... I suspect lazy / sensationalist / biased journalism.

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

They started transitioning to Li-ion in 2016, 2018 models use both kinds, depending on market / model according to Toyota Japan. Li-ion has a higher capacity at lower weight, which is why other EV manufacturers use them almost exclusively.
  14. arsevee

Looking to buy a Calais V Tourer

Yeah. Simple. A global shortage of Li-ion batteries. Hyundai/Kia have a 12-month waiting list in some markets, VWAG put their releases back / throttled supply for the same reason, as have most manufacturers... And anyway, Toyota's Hybrid sales are tanking now the Model 3 production is...

I was looking at these - long throw and plug & play wiring kit: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/14-inch-Osram-LED-LIGHT-BAR-72W-STEDI-Double-Row/112239448833?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

    Vxr vs calais

I'd doubt it, there were far fewer VXRs imported & registered - scarcity will keep the prices higher. And they'll be six months older, with six months less warranty. Other than the wheels and better seats in the VXR, I'm not sure the look is any less 'premium'. (although those headlights...

    Vxr vs calais

Email all the Victorian dealers with what you're after and let them fight for your business. I wouldn't buy 'new' unless you're comfortable with a fairly significant devaluation... Look at SA & NSW dealers too - just factor in the full registration costs for an interstate vehicle. And do the...

    Vxr vs calais

Highly recommended :) I'm far from a lightweight and my generous proportions fit easily. Remember these are also sold in 'Murica, so there's room for most people... A mate of mine is 6'4" and he fits easily too, with plenty of room behind. There's plenty of 'demo' and ex-Holden drive cars...

    Vxr vs calais

Very, The side & thigh bolsters are enough to hold you in place, but not so deep as to be intrusive. The seats are very supportive, the extendable / tiltable cushion and adjustable lumbar support allow for a 'custom' fit - four hours to Hervey Bay and there's no back pain... :)

Yet a friend of mine has an VFII SV6 Black and reckoned the ZB Calais was smoother - wonder if the SV6 has overly stiffened suspension..? :)

    Vxr vs calais

Calais for comfort, VXR for 'sportiness'. Both great cars, but the Calais can be had in a 'V' wagon - I went with the RS-V wagon as it had the sports seats which I preferred over the Calais'. If you don't have need for a wagon, I'd suggest you drive them back-to-back for an accurate...

I will never buy a new Holden again "ever"

Used to, newer cars run the A/C from an electric motor, like the power-steering, so it's not relying on the drive belt(s). Firing a spark into a charged cylinder will supply enough impetus to restart a warm engine. Some manufacturers use this method, some us a TS (twin solenoid) starter...

I will never buy a new Holden again "ever"

Yeah, the EV market is going to take off in the next couple of years - lots of established players entering the market will make it interesting. They reckon EVs will hit price-parity in 2025. I would have bought a Model 3 if they weren't so ugly on the outside (I love the interior), and the...

  36. arsevee

I will never buy a new Holden again "ever"

It doesn't need to - A/C units can be kept running on battery for short periods of time; in fact many Euro cars have an auxilliary battery to keep things running while the engine is hut down. But as Pablito mentioned - it makes for expensive battery replacements. Ultimately stop/start is more...

I will never buy a new Holden again "ever"

Firing a single charged cylinder is enough to restart a hot engine, it won't work on a cold one. Also, the cylinder only stays charged for a certain amount of time - minutes, not hours - so it certainly won't work as a restart option every time.
