Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

Yeah - I'll have to think about this... The gas system hasn't been serviced in a long time (since a backfire damaged the mixer) - and certainly not since putting in the new(er) motor. Problem is, I'm broke as a mofo atm - so I was hoping to do as much as I could myself. The joys of being...

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

Nah - I can't feel anything going clunk. They both used to both make noise and have a feelable click when they were running up until I had an engine change ~15000km ago (original engine did 440,000km!). I used the DMM to try and find the path to ground to make sure it wasn't something stupid...

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

Ok, so I checked the signal with LED + resistor and the flashing on the LED matches the LED on the controller behind the glove box. Before I look at replacing the solenoid etc - could there be anything on the vacuum or LPG side of things that could stop the valve ticking properly?

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

I think the thing here is that once it is running on LPG, the performance is fine. There is no rough running, no dips in power etc. I pulled out the multimeter, measured 20 and 21 ohms across the two coils. I measured ~20ohms between one of the wires and ground (so I assume that's the proper...

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

Well, I pulled the glove box out today and had a look at the 'computer' down there. The green light flickers away - the red lights every now and again when I rev the engine and let it go back to idle again. I presume this is the mixture control happening in real time... The valves at the front...

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

My switch looks nothing like the ones in the Blue LPG shop... Mine is just like the hazard switch - but no light. The controller and tappy things are exactly the same as the ones in the thread you posted to...

Factory LPG switch + gas 'computer'

Hi all, I've found bugger all info on these things - so I'll ask here: 1) Where can I get a replacement Petrol / LPG switch that goes under the headlight switch on my VR? I've found tons of aftermarket - but not sure on if these will be compatible with the factory impco system. I've...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

I've done this so many times its not funny. When warm, I get either a trickle or a stream of coolant coming out the bleeder...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Ok, well. I've got the car back after getting a changeover engine installed. It runs nicely now - however I'm having some issues with overheating. I can leave it idle for ages and the temp doesn't increase too much - I can even drive it around the local streets, but whenever I hit 80kph+ the...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

I'm just wondering... With the replacement motors.... Is there such a thing as modifications that would be done for a factory LPG motor? Are all the VR compatible engines able to run LPG without modification? As the car has a factory LPG system fitted, it should be very easy to connect to...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Yeah - I'm like driving miss daisy - although the Mrs tows her horses around all the time with it... It gets services (new oil, oil filter) every 10,000km (+/- 800). New air filter every second service. It has a three month warranty... I've just got to confirm that they are expecting to put...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Yeah - I hear you on that one.... Sadly though I don't have enough know-how to do this job myself... I can do basic stuff - water pumps, oil, radiator, plugs, etc etc - but things like this are getting beyond what I can do in both tools, knowledge and experience...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Yeah - its a changeover service - so he takes the old motor... but its $1050 fitted with coolant / oil etc. He says the engines have between 150,000-180,000km on them and come with a 3 month warranty... I also agree that 445,000km is a good run... A lot of that has been hard work too - towing a...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

In a word. Poo. So, this makes me wonder... What is the best way forward for this? eBay shows second hand motors for ~$400-$500 - plus some places that are almost local will do fitting etc... I just talked to the guy advertising it on eBay.... ~$450 for the motor and $550 for fitting, then $50...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Interestingly, I used a bit of heater hose I had today and seemed to isolate the area the noise is coming from. I got it to the point that I could feel the air pressure coming down the hose - but I can't see exactly where it is coming from. With the help of the good old gregory's, I believe its...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Good tips from all. I'll give them a try in the daylight and see what it rurns up... I'm really puzzled by this - as you can see, the engine runs fine - so I'm not sure where the issue is. I really would have thought a head gasket (if in fact this motor has one) would have more symptoms.. I'm...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Posted a quick video / audio of the engine running... This is the view down to near cylinder #6. The compressed air noise is clearly audible... https://plus.google.com/105746722481078274757/posts/Qc8y7gor54R I did tighten up the rocker cover bolts - all of which turned quite easily for ~1/3 of...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Ok... I'll check the nuts on there and tighten them a little (if I can) but I doubt this by itself would have anything to do with the noises... I'll also give it a bit of a clean with a wire brush / degreaser / hose - maybe it'll help to see better around there... I was also thinking that...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

I've just gone out there again and decided to cram my smartphone into any gap I can to try and get photos of whats going on around that area... This is looking directly at the #6 spark plug. Looking at the top of the exhaust header. Looking at the back of the rocker cover towards #6...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

To be honest, that's what I thought... It looks like there has been quite a lot of crap around there for a while... There is certainly a larger degree of buildup (the general black crap) gathered around that plug area for the #6 cylinder. As I said previously, I swapped the plug from #6 to the...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Yeah - its difficult as I can't see jack **** down that side of the engine due to the ABS module etc. I've given a few things a bit of a shake, but nothing seems loose... The hard part is that I don't think I'm going to be able to see anything unless I start pulling things apart :(
  22. CRCinAU

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

This looks a bit strange... I pulled out all the plugs along the drivers side and this was the one that came out of Cylinder #6. (drivers side rear). Theres a lot of residue on the end of the spark plug (not the spark end). I cleaned this up with a wire brush and put it in a cylinder on...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Thats pretty much what I thought re the VS etc... Especially with the number of Km this VR has done (as I said, above 460,000). I'm seeing engines on ebay etc for ~$400-$500 with some of the places able to do an install as well. Means I may be able to get engine + install for around $1000. It...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Yeah - I did think of this - but I don't have a compression tool at this stage - or any transport to go get one - except driving the same car... I briefly mentioned to the mechanic about just replacing the motor, he said ~$3000-$3500... which to me sounds excessive as well :(
  25. CRCinAU

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Just took this to the mechanics - they say the noise sounds like compression related - so they seem to think its the head... They also mentioned that it may be possible to fit a gasket on there - as these models don't have one as stock to fix the problem. They also quoted around $1500-$2000 to...

High pressure air sound on drivers side of motor

Hi all, This is a new one for me.... Today the Mrs got home from driving and told me the car is making a ticking sound... Opened up the bonnet and all looked normal... When she started it, I can hear what sounds to be a high pressure air escaping from somewhere down the drivers side of the...

    (Another) LPG Issue

Ok - so I was suspect that it was the switch, but I couldn't find any kind of information on it.... So, upon further inspection, I noticed that the switch was the pull-apart type. So I did what everyone in that situation would do - I pulled it apart... Then I noticed there was a lot of hard...

    (Another) LPG Issue

I'm wondering that... If only I can find out how the switch is supposed to work :) Checked all the fuses etc in the box next to the battery, all measures ok there... Would there possibly be any hiding elsewhere?

    (Another) LPG Issue

I just thought about trying the solonoids directly.... I took the single wire off the solonoid and connected it to 12v and sure enough, the solonoid triggered, so its certainly not that.... I've pulled out the LPG / Petrol switch (has the number 92O49938 on it) and trying to figure out how it...

    (Another) LPG Issue

Hi all, I'm trying to find the source of this problem thats just cropped up in my trusty VR... (440,000km!). When I start the engine on petrol and drive, everything is fine. As soon as I flick the switch over to LPG, the motor dies. It doesn't start or run at all on LPG. The LPG system...

    Motorola TK30 Bluetooth in VY

I'm looking at something similar for a Parrot MKi9100. The big thing I want to get working is A2DP (bluetooth streaming music) - but I'm not sure if I can do this and get all speakers working. I'll be looking at putting it into a VY II.

    [VR-VS] Rebuilding/painting your alternator.

Your post to this thread reminds me that I have an alternator with noisy ass bearings sitting on a shelf... I should pull it apart and try to recover it as a spare. Does anyone have the part number of the bearings used in this so I can order them in advance before making a mess everywhere?

VN - VR: IAC (Idle Air Control) How-To Clean

I'm pretty sure this cuts out the starter if you try to start the engine while holding the accelerator. It certainly doesn't start if I press the accelerator before I try to crank over the engine...

Cleaned IAC, now stalls on every start.

Righteo :) I wasn't too sure if you started it and straight away held 3000rpm that the ECU would back it back down to idle until the throttle was reset and used again. I've driven the car normally for about 100km - but it still stalls on every start. I'll try holding it at 3000rpm for a little...

Cleaned IAC, now stalls on every start.

I haven't done that... What do you mean by let it come down on its own? If its in neutral, then holding the accelerator at 3000rpm will keep it at 3000rpm?

    Wet Feet

I had this. It turned out to be the drain hole in the heater / aircon box that was blocked. When running the aircon, the moisture collecting in the box wasn't draining to under the car like it should and filling up the box. Having a bit of a poke around under the car with a cable tie managed to...
