    Achilles ATR Sport tyre Failure

Interesting, your details say you drive a VX and a VY - both of which require a minimum load rating of 92 (630kg ea). Your 235/30R20 tyres are only load rated to 88 (560kg ea) and are therefore 70kg ea (280kg total) under the MINIMUM requirement for your car. I would question why they are...

    Achilles ATR Sport tyre Failure

Without seeing the tyre before the blow-out it is hard to identify the cause of this.. if, as you say, your wife drove home on it flat then this would easily have caused the splits. If they were there before the blow-out then that's a different story.... It's hard to see from the pics but it...

    Achilles ATR Sport tyre Failure

It should not cost any-more than normal...that's ridiculous. $15-$20 bucks per tyre maybe but $140 is crazy. Based on your WA price of $265ea (fitted?) you should have paid $530 for the two tyres. Then assuming 9mm tread depth less 3mm wear = 66% refund ($350 refund) Total cost $180 total...

    Achilles ATR Sport tyre Failure

As an Achilles retailer I am really disappointed in your experience with the product and if you were in Melbourne I'd love for you to come and see me so we could sort it out for you. Firstly, with regard to tyre warranties, the process is this (regardless of brand): - Customer must purchase a...

How do you find the PCD of wheels?

OK, so the wheels may have actually shipped into the country as blanks and RJR (Rodney Jane Racing) have drilled them in a 5x120 PCD here in Australia. It's actually illegal though, because they don't have a load rating stamped for the correct PCD (would probably be 690kg anyway). I would have...

How do you find the PCD of wheels?

OK, the reason for the two PCDs stamped into the back of the wheel is because the wheel is manufactured blank and is available in two different PCD's and each different PCD changes the load carrying capacity of the wheel...it's saves on having two moulds for the same wheel...they just drill them...

    20" tyre dilemma

I know you didn't want advice from a tyre store but this ^^^^^ is exactly why advice from a tyre store is needed. It's all very well to specify that one tyre is better than another, but it's another thing to look at your available options..many of the tyres recommended above are NOT available...

    New 22" rim spacer ?

Let me get this straight. A Hub Ring (or Centre Bore Locating Ring, CBL Ring) is not illegal. They are used to ensure the wheel being fitted remains hub-centric as the vehicle design dictates. Many wheels are manufactured with large centre bores to accommodate a variety of vehicles and the...

    New 22" rim spacer ?

It won't be a hub ring issue, If it didn't have hub rings the wheel could still be mounted. Hub-Rings are perfectly acceptable and legal. Troy, I really can't tell from your avatar picture but they look like Speedy Infernos on your car?? (**edit, sorry DTM flair) If so they probably use...

    RE92 vs KUMHO KH18 grip

Kumho KH18 aren't retreads... Perhaps what you have is a retread on a Kumho KH18 casing which makes them significantly different to a new Kumho KH18. Basically a retread can be put on any casing. If a Pirelli P-Zero was retreaded it would no longer be a Pirelli P-Zero if you get my drift...

    noise coming from wheel?

It would definitely be worth pulling a wheel off to inspect. Make sure there are no rub marks where the tyres have been making contact. You may have a small stone jammed in between a rotor and backing plate. Fairly common and simple to fix. Perhaps your pads are getting low, not uncommon...

    Spare Tyre

There's a ~22mm difference between those two tyres. I recommend you change your spare out for a 225/55R16 to match the other tyres. That way it won't matter where on the car you put it and won't cause any drive-line damage. 245/40R18 ~653mm 225/50R16 ~631mm 225/55R16 ~654mm

    The Camber Tyre

Great find!!! Very Interesting. I would be interested to see how these would perform on a properly setup race car, regular shaped tyres vs camber tyres. I suspect they would not perform as well around corners since the harder they are pushed, the less contact patch is on the road, which is...

What is the point of bigger rims?

YouTube - Top Gear Australia - VE Clubsport R8 & R8 WP Stig's Laptimes - This Issue with the 22's is partly due to tyre profile but mainly in my opinion due to the rolling diameter being too large and affecting gearing (acceleration) and braking. It has been proven time and again that the best...

wheel alignment is off after putting new rims on

It won't be your wheel alignment... Either a wheel & tyre are out of balance, a wheel or tyre is damaged (buckled or seppo), or you didn't fit hub rings when you installed the wheels. Are the wheels genuine factory items? If not then the centre bore will be larger than the hub centre and...

    Ve 20' supersports on vt

This is a myth... There is no such rule anywhere in Australia - (hasn't been for ~10years) Insurance companies on the other hand may not insure anything over +2 but that is between you and the insurance company to sort out. It is perfectly legal to run a 20" tyre on a Commodore (VE or pre...

    VE Wheels Help

19" tyres on a VE are more expensive than 20" tyres due to the fact that only a few manufacturers make the 245/40R19 size, whereas, just about every brand has a 245/35R20 offering. Ride quality relies heavily on suspension and you will notice very little difference between the 40 profile and...

    22's On VY R8

Can 22's be run on a pre-VE? - YES Can it be done legally? - NO (Load rating + rolling diameter) 22's aren't even legal on a VE...let alone a pre-VE. as for running 245/30R20's, what a lot of people seem to forget is that a 225/35R20 is a bigger tyre in diameter and in most cases is too large...
