Thanks for that - my fault turned out to be a fried ECU. I sourced another Delco Unit from Ebay and Trevor from holdendiagnostics.co.nz transferred the VIN data etc and reloaded the operating system and bingo.

Peter - you were spot on... could have saved myself the effort of troubleshooting the switch etc. There was a fat'ish blue wire that had completely broken inside the boot. See pics below for any other future reference. Seems like the window reg and switches etc would be the last thing to check...

hmmm... you must be confused between timing belts and timing chains... this aside its a known design fault with the engine... hence product is not fit for purpose... end of. if anyone is a princess its GM/Holden for not fixing these as they occur without question.

Fight them - its clearly a design fault that Holden AUS ignored when these were being replaced under warranty in the US in the Cadillac that used this motor. Here in NZ a design fault like this is covered under the consumer guarantees act. I suggest you contact an Australian consumer advocacy...

You're telling him what a load of crap, HA. A load of crap is an engine that has been serviced to manufacturers’ specifications and requires a timing chain at 120k's or earlier. If the chains were designed to be replaced this early, the manufacturer would have included it in the servicing...
