In most cases I've found my own transmission services at home are twice as good as most mechanics and trans shops. So if you are mechanical and do other servicing yourself then research how to do the transmission and think about it. A drain and fill is not complicated. But really, unless you have done a LOT of towing in the last year why is it needed already?
Also, any idea why the first trans failed?
And I am mechanically smart I rebuild my bike when I was just 15 just don’t have the tools and equipment etc so wouldn’t attempt it . Too scared to even touch it honestly after the failure I’m she’ll shocked…

Exactly this, just recently done the auto trans service on my Mazda at home and it’s really not that hard, I found after one fluid dump and filter change and refill the fluid was still black so ended up doing it 3 times to get nice clean fluid
Yeh mate I’m just a bit scared to touch it after all I’ve heard about 6 speed trannies

I‘d suggest you ring Office of Fair Trading and chat to them about your trans issue of a year ago and how you were cheated (by being provided unnecessary services and being charging for stuff not replaced). You may be advised a course of action and what could be done to claw back some if not all of what you paid. NCAT may or may not be involved.

Peeves me off when crook mechanics cheat people out of good money (equal to more than a month of average wages). Ream them if you can…
Thanks I might do that. He even asked for money once I proved he never bought the computer ( which was the problem all along) after an extra few grand. He finally bought it and installed it. When I refused he went ape. I had to call peninsula motors they have all the info on my car and said there was no computer bought for my car in the time frame he worked on it. So yeh dodgy af.
Thanks for that advice will look into my options and if it’s too late.

A lot of people are scared. And it is certainly important to do it right. But think of it this way, the sump is essentially a bucket of oil. How difficult can it be to empty the bucket and fill it back up to the right level... ?

My suspicion is that there might be a risk of getting some dirt or grit in to that ‘bucket’ and the dirt or grit causes issues with the valve body? Don’t know, and just speculating. I would have thought that the filter would catch and debris before it can cause any harm?

It does make me wonder if it’d be a good idea to do a thorough clean of the outside of the box before letting anyone service it?
