Yeh, what Reaper said, salted roads and no rust protection. However, later on in the piece it was made compulsory in the US that the lower half of cars had to be galvanised for this very reason. Now, i'm not exactly sure on the year, but the 66 Chevelle i'm repairing at the moment is definately galvanised and i've put a 1/4 panel on a 68 Camaro that was also galvanised.

I always thought it was late 60's but from what you said there maybe it was mid.

Whatever a fully restored, immaculate, matching number, 409 Impala is worth, I assume. Plus the cost of the build.
