Yeh, what Reaper said, salted roads and no rust protection. However, later on in the piece it was made compulsory in the US that the lower half of cars had to be galvanised for this very reason. Now, i'm not exactly sure on the year, but the 66 Chevelle i'm repairing at the moment is definately galvanised and i've put a 1/4 panel on a 68 Camaro that was also galvanised.

I always thought it was late 60's but from what you said there maybe it was mid.

yeah my sills are gal.

New sills were fabricated and installed on both sides of the car

Left hand area wheel tub & quarter panels were created from scratch.

Whatever a fully restored, immaculate, matching number, 409 Impala is worth, I assume. Plus the cost of the build.

keen to see pics on the chassis repair. did you go full chinease, patch up the holes, or go tubular?

Nice work, but those wheels do absolutely nothing for that car i'm afraid.
