2010 VE Calais
My 2010 ve calais has been giving me a Check Engine light warning. I took it straight to my mechanic and it showed a fault in the coolant level sensor. The level was fine? The mechanic cleared the fault and told me to see if the Check Engine light comes back. It did a week or so later, with the same result. He then changed the sensor and cleared the fault. The Check Engine light came back on a couple of week later. Mechanic had the same reading (coolant level sensor)? The mechanic then replaced the water cap with a new one cleared the fault and two weeks later the Check Engine light is on again??? I have yet to take it back to my mechanic as I have already spent $$$ to find it has not fixed the problem? Does anyone have any clues as to what step I take next? Thanks

you might have a trapped air bubble near the sensor, try bleeding the system and see if that helps

Maybe Replace the Temp Sender.

Ground Connection maybe ?
being its the only DTC/error,

If you had multiple, it could possibly be a supply, and/or a ground.

Faulty plug/connector [Corroded].
Start at the ECU connectors/pinouts, and trace the wiring back to the sensor, by checking the continuity and the resistance through the loom.

Bleed the cooling system properly. Use a genuine 140kPa cap.
Make sure the reservoir is topped up.

Hi
My VE anniversary did a similar thing,I had to change radiator cap old one perished new 140Kpa was fitted and I topped up radiator it was full of water.
The coolant wasn't showing full so I added coolant sold by holden then two weeks later the engine warning ⚠️ and orange icon showed its head again so I cleared the error with Key and trip together then turned key on and off four times fixed it.
Yesterday as soon as it reaches a certain temperature it comes back on & NOW X CONTACT DEALER I was out the front Sutherland Holden they checked my battery ????? for voltage then put car into nutral and cleared by key contact dealer started car and booked it in for tuesday ECU HISTORY DIAGNOSTICS to find errors as they have been cleared by a reset service and engine orange icon done by holden mechanic I am not driving it until I take it to them Tuesday seems related to HEATING CAR OR TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMP SOME SENSOR IS CAUSING THIS I HOPE THEY CAN FIND AND FIX IT
I have books a holden Boss owned Calais from new and I have seen it's been serviced every service at 10,000KLM everything timing belts etc have all been done at 180.000 car drives wonderful just lost with this one issue and it's finally posted in right place I hope.

Go back a few posts. Go through the link and save yourself about $700 which is what Holden are about to ream you for after they do the exact same thing to make $650 profit.

Wait. I didn’t post the link.
There will be trapped air in the cooling system causing temp spikes and or overheating. It needs to bled out.
This has how.

Yes this was done by my NRMA friend he is an insurance inspector for nrma his mechanical talents are similar to what I just watched only difference was coolant colour, mines green however I feel very good-there as job did find air but ZERO LEAKS pressure flush what a good way to do it.
I'm positive it will be sorted I know Holden charge fees despite repairing what you request so Im going to a Mechanical Specialist who's been doing commodores for last 45 years he does Full Diagnostics including ECU History as far back as they can go! $176.00 huge machine not a ODBII PLUGIN So as Holden do charge as you said I have done what you've suggested and saved myself a lot of $$.
Hopefully diagnostics will find reasons for CHECK ENGINE WARNING ⚠️

VE is supposed to have red coolant. It’s a different coolant type.
