I'm fairly sure you have to machine the heads to accept those stud mounted rockers

nah you can get the 5/16th to 3/8th" rocker stud converters.

Probably better off going this way, I have seen quite a few heads cracked around the boss with the larger thread hole.

i think OP is talking about bog stock rockers, not rollers. in which case they will fit and the rockers will work just fine.

Got a used set with pushrods and bolts if you’re interested.

Throw the stock bolts away and just buy some decent replacements. Last time I replaced mine with cap screws as I sheared 2 off when torquing to spec so binned the whole set.
