Although BoM don’t focus on hail forecast details, in some circumstances they do. This is one. There are reputable forecasters who can develop an accurate estimate of hail size in days ahead of storms. These are often done by specialised independent forecasting services that service insurance companies and weather critical businesses.

BOM forecasts 'very dangerous storms' with 'giant hail' for large parts of Queensland tomorrow

Yes it looks rough for the Queensland coast. I'm in Sydney which doesn't look as bad. Still raining here though, had around 100mm rain this week. Started in the middle of Friday night with one of the loudest thunder claps I've ever heard. BOOM! Like something exploded.
And I was supposed to be doing some painting this week...

I forgot to mention, make use of BoM’s Meteye service. For timing of severe weather, it is a useful tool to plan ahead.

On the side bar, click Storms, snow and fog. Select Thunderstorms.
http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/

Have a look at the legend and see what is rain and what is storms.

Zoom in to your local area.

Also, why I mention BoM and not other sources is because almost all weather apps use overseas computer generated forecasts that have nothing to do with BoM. Often using the unreliable GFS model. (Native phone weather apps will use this, not local forecasts.) So you get inaccurate info or conflicting info to other sources.

WeatherZone also do their own forecasts in some of their rainfall forecasts.

When it comes to detailed rainfall, BoM are reluctant to move outside 3 or 4 days because it becomes too variable and inaccurate after that.

I do use an app called Windy because it uses BoM data. Also uses ECMWF (a super reliable weather modelling system) where BoM don’t provide data.

Looks like we've found Fu Manchu's specialist subject, apart from rebuilding Cross 8s of course!
