Definitely, it's mainly the accelerating, when you sit at 100, it just barely uses fuel. I'm assuming that you always sat in 5th? If there was a part where there were no lights for 5km and you had to go 60kmph the whole way, would you consider using 6th?

5km at 60kph with no lights doesn't exist round here ;)

But to be honest I stick to 4th at 60, feels like the engine is labouring less. In 5th at 60 is just over 1k, feels too low. And as per the other thread, I'm not staring at the instantaneous consumption. Any kind of incline/decline will throw it all off anyway.

I've got a diesel to spend my time worrying about fuel consumption with!

Also don't forget final drives. HSV run different to SSs as stock (I think)

.... Call me weird but I find it fascinating... I absolutely love trying to perfect driving it...
Your weird :p Hypermiling in a V8 seems like a bit of an oximoron :p:eek:

But on a more serious not, I think i should have bought a manual rather than an auto

There are online calculators that can show you all that.

Not only am I continually getting better at picking the right gears and changing better, I'm actually enjoying teaching my wife as well.

I choose a gear to suit the traffic and road conditions and the speed at which I'm travelling, not the fuel usage.

I don't feel I need to be in a high gear just because I'm coasting along, I prefer to have some quick response available if I suddenly need it.

In a built up area 1 to 4 works the best, 5 to 6 when out on the highway/freeways.

My ears would be constantly ringing if I in any way tried to tell my wife how to drive, best to 'let sleeping dogs lie'.

AFAIK

The VF1 V8 is fitted with 2.92 for auto and 3.45 for manual.
The VF2 V8 is fitted with 3.27 for auto and 3.70 for manual. The 3.0 and 3.6 litre engines are 3.27 for auto and manual.

I've really got to work on my changes. 2nd seems the traction control kicked in and I'm not sure what is going on.
I think it’s called wheel spin, so TC kicks in :p
