Good win to Hawks, I was gunning for freo as the under dogs, but ah well.
Good excuse to get on the piss, even if my team dipped out on week 1 of the playoffs.

Well that was a disappointment. Well done to the Hawks, best team all season and deserving premiers. Still proud of my boys, and looking forward to next year. Bring it on.

Crap game, typical Freo/Ross Lyon footy. Fairly close and low scoring, Scrappy with poor skill level and no ball movement, and hard to pick a handful of players who played well on the day. The prelim final against Geelong was the grand final we deserved with the novel concept of both teams actually playing footy.

Ross Lyon has shown his crap game style is very good at knocking off decent teams all season, but falls short against the best teams in finals. That's why he's zero wins from 4 GF's along with a bunch of disappointing prelim losses with Stkilda. The Saints now have the worst list in the league and will finish bottom in 2014 due to his inability to develop players at any stage in his career. He's a disgrace to the game and I hope he never sees a premiership.

Well done Hawthorn for putting this parasite back in his box

Reportedly Buddy Franklin to the Swans for 9 years at 1.4 million per year.

The AFL is going to become a joke if this deal is allowed to happen.

Yes, it's criminal to pay that much for the most overrated player in history.
The hawks are the big winners here, it frees up money for them to shop around in the trade period.

Supposibly it's that high to help pay for the expense of living in Sydney.

It's that high to stop GWS getting him and maybe attracting some semblance of a fan base.

Deal is 1.1 a year over 9 years, total of 10 million.

The reasons for this in my eyes are as follows.

GWS were offering 1.2 a year over 6 years with the AFL to chip in close to 500k a season as an ambassadorial salary for the AFL.

Franklins management would have informed sydney of his willingness to join them and throughout the year sydney have been working their list to allow for the 1.1 a year needed to fit franklin in.

The reason it will be 1.1 for 9 is that sydney simply could not match 1.7-2mill a year that franklin would have gotten going to GWS, so instead sydney have figured out a way to get him the same overall contract payment but just adjusted the per-year ammount.

GWS's offer would have equalled close to 10mill over 6 years.

Sydney's offer 10 mill over "9" years.

Franklin WANTS to play for a successful club, but he also demands big money...he and his manager have used GWS's big sack of money to leverage sydney into offering ludacris money that could potentially cripple their club if this doesn't go as they hope it will.

Honestly I think franklin has 2-3 years of potentially great football left in him but he has passed his prime and isn't worth 1.4 a year, he has been carrying some niggling shoulder injuries and hasn't played at his best for the last few years, granted his influence was reduced this year as hawthorn premeditated his leaving and phased him out of the team.

Sydney now leave themselves wide open for being stripped of their 9.8% cost of living allowance (cola) and have managed to paint a target on themselves for other clubs to attack their players more aggressively when their contracts come to an end. They have tied up 30% of their salary cap in only 2 players (tippett on 900k a year), they can talk up their "culture" all they want but I have no doubt this will result in a lot of players leaving when the time comes to negotiate their contracts.

It has already started, Mumford is set to sign a 3 year contract with GWS.

If things go perfectly for sydney they could have just bought themselves a couple of premierships at the cost of their image.

If things go badly, buddy could be injured early on and then they are screwed.

Winners - Franklin and his manager, pickers

Losers - GWS, possibly sydney.
