Air vents

Can anyone tell me why the air vents don't point any higher than horizontal? I've owned plenty of cars and hired a few too and never have I been in one where I couldn't point the air vents upwards to my head.

I think its a safety thing, so you cant blow air at your eyes.

Thats the only reason i can think of

Well it sounds ridiculous if that is the reason. I hired a Cruze recently and the air vents go above horizontal so maybe it's a death trap!
