did you remove and check the main bearings mine were stripped from having sludge and the screen blocked that will affect the oil pressure greatly

put a new pump in when I did the chains .....Im in the process of taking the sump off and I might slip a mains cap off the see if theres any sign of them worn ....
previously there was no metal in the sump

Also how did you do the mains....engine out?

yes had engine out and stripped and in a engine stand. check the rear main that's the one that will be damaged if the oil pressure is low

I always do Alloytec oil and filter (always together) at 5,000 km intervals.
May be overkill, but oil & filters are cheap - engines aren't.

That's a good way to think about it actually! Thanks...

Ok sump off and took pickup off again and the screen wasnt totally blocked but there was a lot of sludgy stuff directly under the pickup in the shape of a circle ..like it had been trapped between screen shroud and bottom of sump and maybe when the pump sucked it up it restricted the oil flow ..sort of explains the noise stopping when you turn the engine off and on ? took no2 mains off ..perfect bearing surface uniform and no sign of any oil starvation.....should I put it back together ?
Also the long sensor that fits into the head just below the cam gears anyone know what that does... its fed oil through a gallery ..do they have any oil pressure dramas

put it all back together and it went well ....had a couple of overhead lash rattles but they have gone now ..have a check engine warning at startup but engine runs well....i think the inlet variable timing is clogged up but its just clocked over 200k and starts and runs good ...no more 15k services and it will be good for another 200 k.....just did a 2200 trip with no worries oil pressure 40 to 50 lbs at 100kph
