Well, if you power those subs properly your battery will not last very long at all with your car off :)

No doubt.

Do subwoofers with a power rating as high as those need a monoblock each, or is there a monoblock that can power both properly with no distortion?

I don't want to sacrifice quality to save money. I would rather buy two amplifiers and power the subwoofers properly than buy one and have substandard sound quality.

What impedence coils are you getting? Will you be competing in SPL comps?

There is amps that would make enough power for both, but they will cost more than twice as much as two seperate amps.

I doubt I will be entering SPL competitions. It's just that I'm a bit of an overkill person. I like knowing I can, it doesn't necessarily mean I will. I prefer things to be done properly the first time around.

I'm not sure on the impedance rating yet. I was considering 4 ohm coils, but I haven't thought about it too much. I have too many things on my mind to get into the details right now, but any advice will be appreciated.

I will be installing the amplifiers into a custom perspex display box that will replace the centre of the rear seat in my wagon. There will be two sports seats on the sides, and the amplifiers will be made into a feature. I will probably also end up running a capacitor in the setup too, so having one amplifier will help there.

whoa. 9500's! Thats a big step up from what i was thinking. There are amps that will supply that much power (2400W) but they will be pricey. It may work out cheaper to get 2 mono's. IM not really sure about any amps that produce 2400W RMS, but there are probably a couple out there. You dont have to run them at the full 2400W RMS, an i dont really see the point of this massive overkill if you arent gonna compete.

If you're gonna be running 2 9500' at near there full potential, i dont think that the standard battery will hold out for very long. You will probably need a new battery, or possibly two, and maybe a higher power alternator.

Usually, when you buy subs and amps, you choose the amps to match teh sub. With a 9500, you can choose a sub to match the amp. Find out what amps you will be running the subs off, and then decide what impedence VC's to get

I'm building the system from scratch, I'm working out what speakers I want and then how to power them. No point in deciding on the amplifiers first and then looking at what I can use them to power.

yes, but you've already chosen what speakers you want, havent you? SO now decide what you want to power them. No point in limiting your options by deciding on two subs that can only present a 2 or 8ohm load, when your amp may run better off 1ohm

that vc of yours is going to rattle something chronic! so from you describing yourself as an "overkill" person i guess you dont really care about the money you spend on the amp. maybe go a couple of rockford T30001b. 2000W @ 2ohms. or the audiobahn a5000spl rack mount (5000wrms @ 2ohms)
if your spending this much on a pair of these subs for private use and you dont care about money heaps then just goto a specialist car audio retailer and ask for an amp that will power the 9500s (eg about 4500-5000wrms).
