Vt acclaim
Hi guys,
My Vt is currently sitting on 17" rims. im thinking of upgrading, possibly to a 19, but i happen to see some awesome 20's..

So question is are they too big for the car? will they Greatly affect preformance?
And i can bet that legally there is an issue but thats not my case.

Anyone got 20's on a VT?

Ta

if the car came standard with 15" then the highest you can go is 17" legally

20" are at risk of having the car defected
19" you can still get defected for but their not as obvious

its always 2" from standard is the maximum

by law you can go as big as you want, its the width that becomes a proplem. you can only go an inch and a half wider than standard, so if your vt had 15 by 7 alloys as standard you can go to 8.5 inches wide and so on. 20 inch wheels look great but practically not real good for everyday driving because you have to be so careful about every pot hole and bump. Plus the ass end of commodores scrub out the inside of the rear tyres pretty bad and 20's are pretty expensive and i dont see anyone get more than 15 -20 thousand KM out of them. Another drama is you can only get a 225/30r20 size tyre on the front anything wider usually scrapes and that size tyre doesnt have the correct size load rating for a commodore and cops are onto this and can defect you.
The thing is 20's look great and its your money so its your decision. Plus if you get defected all you do is put stocky's back on to get it passed again.

20s are uber lame. Keep it to 19s maximum, less wank factor.

I think 20's can look ok. Unless you have coilovers then you have to use 225 rubber and it looks crap! Tyres are skinnier than the wheels!

In 2003 maybe :p Now days you can have whatever size you like provided its within 15mm of the overall rolling diameter of the TYRE + RIM as listed on your factory tyre placard.

Victorian cops are arseholes when it comes to canaries.

They WILL defect you if too big.

In QLD we never had the worry about wheel size except for a roady but down here I personally wouldnt risk it.
I'd play it safe and go 19" or atleast keep a set of stockies incase it happens.

Also in Victoria it IS 2 inches. NOT the diameter!
