VP V8 Starter motor

:ranting: :bang: Hi i had problems with my mates starter motor in his VP Auto V8 Calais , it was playing up so we replaced it with a new one and now battery seems flat and the starter keeps turning motor over trying to start but key will not turn starter off just keeps going with the key off we have had starter in and out trying to sort this out could it be that the battery has had it! as when we put a new battery in there dont seem any problems and car seems ok. dont know if its the battery or the new starter motor. car was hard to crank over before new starter motor was put in. would putting a new battery in solve this or is it more serious??? thanks

If the battery is flat it wont turn over.
is the ignition barrel ok?, the switch may be stuck.
i think you should get some professional help, its a bit hard to work this out this way.

hey bob i have some pictures as per my PM last night, they dont show all configurations i have tried but you get the idea of the setup. MAF and TB on plenum works fine, MAF outside charger and TB on plenum works fine, any way which has the the tb outside the charger (and thereby the intercooler as well) seems to run poorly. It starts by idleing high and then settles down nicely, revs fine but then stalls when i back off. Surely there are a lot of vehicles out there running this way, would it just be a simple tuning issue?

Its definitely related to the distances involved, you may be ablle to tune it out, a lot of guys are converting to a VR system to use the MAP sensor, im not sure that it would be a simple tune but it may be possible.

hi Bob,

I have a '84 VK that's thrown a hissy all of a sudden (couple of months ago). She refuses to start after one day. She trys to turn over, sounds like she just can't do it accompanied with a whining noise. Also, apparently when trying to start her, a friend heard a hissing noise from beneath the bonnet that lasted a few minutes. this was heard from inside the car. Also the smell of petrol is very strong.

Wondering what it could be....

Ok dr bob about my prob with the auto. (I will refresh you)
In R it goes no where like its in neutral, when in N it drives like its in drive, drive and over drive work fine as does 2nd 1st is slipping. Also the car is always dead indicating a short.
Hers my fault codes
66 (3-2 Shift Control Solenoid Circuit Fault - Auto Transmission Only),
67 (TCC ON-OFF Solenoid Control Circuit - Auto Transmission Only)
So would this also be the reason why my battery is always dieing?
And how do I fix these problems?

ok, it sounds like the tbar adjustment is up the spout to begin with, get that sorted out first.
the codes if logged individually would indicate faulty solenoids, but with two logged i would be looking at the transmission internal harness.
it may be shorted but i doubt this is causing the battery problems though.
i would suggest taking it to a Holden dealer or reputable transmission specialist to sort this out.

VS Calais 5.0Litre '96 Series 1
Hi Dr. Bob,

Im trying to put some cash away to come and see you to get my chip upgraded.

I have had my dash cluster out and there is a switch on the back of it saying 60 or 80 litre tank, now the most i have ever put in my tank was 72litres. and thats when readout on the cluster had just clicked over to 0kms left on the tank. i normally struggle to put in 70litres, like i have to stand there for 2 or 3 minutes to try and get those last extra 2 litres in the tank, and i know i have used 70 litres cos i have checked it with the computer on the cluster.

Is it possible to put in 80 litres into this tank, or would you recommend just driving it till it stops and see just incase the cluster is reading incorrectly. WOuld the fuel pump have anything to do with this as sometime it sounds like there are bubbles or something noisey in the fuel pump / tank area?

I had a camber kit installed on the rear end of my VS Calais as my passenger side rear wheel was well and truely out, i had 15" stock alloys on when i got this done and have since put on 18" VY SS wheels and the camber was out again, i took it back and the guys at TTF realligned it for me but said the best they can get it was 2.2 for passenger side and 1.1 for drivers side. with the camber kit it should be all fixed up shouldn't it?

thats just 2 of my many questions, i will draw them out over a while so i dont piss you of too much with my silly questions :p
