New starter motor arrived today, gunna fit it this evening, photos to come

Well feel kinda dumb at the minute, put the new starter motor in, but still got that grinding noise, does anyone have any idea why it would suddenly start grinding like that? Bear in mind that the grinding started while driving without me ever having touched the starter motor before.

Hmmm, can't say I've ever heard that noise, where was the sound clip taken? Under the at in the car?

I'm guessing it happens when it's not moving as well as when moving, and goes with the revs?

The clip was recorded right by the starter motor and yeah the sound behaves just as you described.

one thought though, this noise might not be caused by the starter motor being loose could it?
cos I removed the starter motor today to put some shims in between to try help distance the motor from the flywheel, however as i put the bottom bolt back on, I found that it had stripped out completely, could this be a cause?

Could be, but in saying that, I only had one bolt in mine hire a long time.
I would check spacings between starter and fly wheel, and then also anything that spins with the crank.
Perhaps a bearing on it's way out, probably worst case, but a possibility.
