VS Commodore BT1 V8
Hi all. Does anyone know if Police Commodores were ever true SS models, or just hybridised Executives with some SS parts & decal? My car is a ex-NSW Police Highway Patrol VS V8. The compliance plate says it's a BT1 spec V8, auto. However in addition to the SS seats & dash/speedo it has a spoiler, SS body decal and SS wheels. (Rather than Executive body decal & Police steel wheels) I'm thinking a previous owner just added the SS body decal, spoiler, and SS wheels to make a replica SS. How do I tell for sure? I don't care if it's not a genuine SS, I only care that I bought a genuine V8 car which I did. Cheers. Dylan. (New member)

Kinda pointless for the factory to "hybridise" stuff like that (especially every SS option), would just be wasted time/money. SS will come up as an Executive if you plug it into a VIN decoder as that's what it was based on. People who have access to the Holden DB (dealers etc...) will be able to tell you though.

If it has IRS the chances it's genuine are almost certain as IRS was standard AFAIK.

If the BT1 Dylan, from what I've read since getting a Vic VR BT1 this year, they are a genuine SS just badged Executive. BT1 vehicles also used by ambulance and fire brigade

They aren't SS's, just used SS parts like the seats only.

So if they weren't an SS why did they put the embroided SS seats into them ??

To me the Highway / Freeway cars with the V8's were basically SS spec (Exec with a V8) with the BT1 National Police electric upgrade package added.
