My VF now has decent scratches, gouges from shopping trolleys or small scrapes on most doors and guards.

It’s phantom black metallic, so a notch to match.

Was thinking about exploring a closed door respray as I want the same color.

Any idea of what something like this would cost?

How long you planning on keeping it?

If it's a "keeper", a proper respray is into 5-digit numbers these days. On the positive side, a proper respray will be better than what the factory put on it from many points of view (one of those being chip resistance - it's hard for humans to put 2 microns of paint on like the Holden robots did!).

The dings and other repairs need to be factored into the paint it cost.
Preparing can be expensive keep in mind then painting.
I would think all of about 8 or so for a reasonable job.

If there are dings then best to get the PDR'd. PDR will be about $60-$70 per ding if we're talking trolley dings. Bog, will be a bit more than that.

The clear coat over Sting red on my ute built late Aug '17 is so thin, I've buffed through it twice with minimal pressure on the driver's lower door and the tailgate. I'm convinced I could lean on the buff a lot harder on VE's.

That is poor. I had my bonnet buffed on the VE ute as it had a few scratches. I buffed the tonnneau myself and not even close to rubbing through.

Budget $15k for a good job with the dings/scuffs fixed.

Budget $8-10k for a sand and shoot which means the dings etc will still be there, just with fresh paint on it.

My old man just had his VF SSV in Prussian Steel done closed door, cheapest quote he could find was $11k, and you never go with the cheapest option.

Get 5 quotes and go for one in the middle if you want a decent job while not paying ridiculous amounts. These days panel beaters won't get out of bed for less than $10k on a respray.

I've had panels painted and they've cost me $400 to $500 per panel. Not sub-standard either, very good job.

Got 3 quotes for painting my front bar, bonnet and both front guards, and then blended into both front doors. Prices were from $2500 for the cheapest up to $6k.

My front bar had a aluminium 8ft ladder fall and hit it, leaving claw-like scrapes in it, so that is included in the repairs.

I also had stone chips over the front of the car, and in July I purchased a new Gerni which I promptly tested when I got it home. I hit the top of the passenger side front guard right near a stone chip which blew off a piece of clear coat about the size of a 50 cent coin.

The gerni had the concrete washer nozzle on it..

Anyway, that's also included in the cost of the respray.

The $2500 quote is from the panel shop that repaired my car at the start of the year, and their work was fantastic. So I'll be taking it there.
