It was mid-late 2005 they changed all to the alloy colour

Not totally relevant , but before I bought my SV6 , I tested a 175 KW Berlina , I still think I made the right choice in getting a SV , so much better in preformance and feel

The gearboxes of the 190s feel better IMO
They're not as strong in terms of longevity from the torque, but I've had no issues and I like the way the TCM shifts, especially downshift

Not true. It depends on when it was produced. My WL is 2005 has the 190kW engine and was grey.
The ways to tell are - in an auto, as described, will have 5 speed. The shift options on your selector will say D, 4, 3, 2 rather than D, 3, 2, 1(or L). There will be paddles behind the top spokes on steering wheel, small ones, with a + or - symbol.

Engine covers should state Alloytec190 as opposed to Alloytec (unless changed) as will side badges on fenders with indicators (sometimes)
The engine itself will have 2 electrical connections at the rear of the plenum, one will actually have a black circular mechanism attached to the plug, this is the variable intake.
The intake pipe itself on 190s at the front of the engine will have long plastic resonators extending toward drivers side of the car originating from under the intake pipe, almost extending to the battery.
Generally engine numbers on 190kW start with 10H7, also, on your compliance plate in engine bay, the 190kW engine has a designation of LY7, whereas the 175kW has LEO.

That should help

It's strange because my 2007 VZ Executive wagon engine no starts with LEO indicating a 175kw, yet on the New Zealand Transport Agency info, it's listed as 190kw.

For anyone posting on this thread or to this member, keep in mind that his location is stated as being Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia. The vehicle he is referring to may have different options etc than those manufactured for the Australian market and of course vice a versa.

The manifold colour went back to silver after Dec 05 and the engine covers no longer said 190.... I am told this was because they shaved a couple of KWs off to meet Euro 4 emmission regs.... Agree the trans is the easiest way to tell all 190s have the 5 speed 5L40..

BTW, do the resonators on the 190 intake tube have anything to do with power or efficiency, or are they just for noise moderation?
