Are the housings the same from vq/vp to vx/vy/vz. Cause I got a some spare housings and I want to fit an eaton truetrac and 3.9 gears in it . And I want new gears so will have to use the later type gears and centre in older housing

Not sure about the housings, but the gears themselves are physically bigger. I think its 7.5in for VN/P and 8.25in for VT/X/Y/Z (not 100% sure though, has been ages since i seen them :p)

Yea I will get a trutrac center and 3.9 gears to suit the bigger type diff. So just have to figure out if I need a vx-vz housing or use a vp vq one. I know ill also have to get the spigot ground off the pinion to suit flange type tailshaft

I have a question. What is the setup VP v6 live axle would have? are they 28 spline or 25?

second question is, I am looking at having my diff (live axle VP v6) converted to LSD. I have asked the cost from a reputable diff and gearbox specialist and they said the ball park is 3k for a BW based unit, yeah I know, whats up with that?
So I read here that the IRS centers are the same up to vt series 1? I see there are a few vp-vs irs diffs available for good price, can I used the center out of those and have a diff mechanic overhaul and convert it over to the live axle?

VN-VS all had 28 spline, 4 pinion centres.

Yes, the LSD centre from a IRS car will fit a semi trailing diff (solid diff).

Cheers

sweet!. I might even consider an aftermarket diff, something like a trutrac.

btw what is lsd like for powering through and out of corners? better traction that open diff? this is the main reason considering lsd as I am lead to believe its better for rear end stability when decelerating and powering through corners. atm I find open diff a bit squirmy putting power through corners when the inside wheel decides to break traction.

btw semi trailing means diagonal independent arms as in IRS. what holdens live axle have is a 4 link live axle, Even can't really be viewed as full trailing suspension the context of a holden as the lower arms are not fixed part of the axle.

cheers.

Changing the diff ratio will alter the speed to rpm relationship. for example going from 3.08 gears (standard) to 3.45 gears will give you approx 200rpm more for the same road speed

I have a VY SS and want to run 3.45 or 3.46 ratio. What model comes out with that ratio, will it interchange?

Post in the VY section, you'll get better responses. Pretty sure manual VYs had them.

As far as I'm aware, VT series 2 to VY, Automatic LS1 equipped vehicles had 3.07 ratio and those fitted with the T56 manual trans got the 3.46 ratio diffs.
