Hoping to get some assistance....
Have a WM Caprice 6.0Lt that I did a AFM Lifter Delete and installed a stage 1 222-228 Camshaft. After the Cam install I had the car towed to a mechanic to ECM Tune the car. After he had the bloody car for 2 weeks he rang me and said he couldn't finish the Tune because the transmission was slipping at top end. I collected the car and took it to a Transmission specialist who told me the person that did the tune had put too much pressure in the Transmission causing it to start slipping (Transmission had around 200K on it and shouldn't of been adjusted so much). He did manage to flash the Transmission to stock which removed the slipping at top end but unfortunately left the car Flaring when coming to a stop. The question I'm asking is I would prefer to not take the car back to this mechanic which leaves me 2 options (1) Find another place to Tune the ECM or (2) Purchase a Tuner and attempt tuning it myself (I am a mechanic but I left the trade years ago and really didn't get into the Computer tuning side of things). Appreciate any Help / Suggestions......

There are a lot of reputable tuners in Sydney, you shouldn't have any trouble finding another one. This is a pretty common type of setup to tune and should be done same day.

Tech 2 wont do it...
Need a software package like HP Tuners or EFI Live.

I haven't tuned anything before. I don't mean this as an insult, but if you're asking that question you should probably just take it to somebody, particularly if you daily the car or use it really regularly. While DIY road tuning is an option, you really need to have some idea or insight to what you're doing and be able to identify issues from logs and tables, and also know how a change in one place effects things elsewhere in the tune. It can also be time consuming. If you're interested to learn more I'd suggest taking a look at the HP Academy channel on YouTube as they have some worked examples for a couple of tuning areas using HP Tuners there and some road tuning stuff, and a complete HP Tuners worked example in one of their paid for courses. Either that or just search for 'HP tuners' on YouTube, heaps of people making videos about it.

How did you pick your last tuner?

If you have the patient to learn get the HP tuner/EFI Live a wide band and have fun. I am enjoying it !

If the cam is aggressive it may benefit you to consider a higher stall torque converter. This would eliminate any cam surge when stopped and make the cam and the tune much more efficient and beneficial.

The gentlemen that sold me the Camshaft said it didn't need a new Torque convertor. I also checked online and I can confirm it doesn't need one.

Ironically I called a mechanic I used to work with when I was in the trade and he had someone working for him that Tuned LS Engines. Pretty much went downhill from there. Thinking about going down the HP Tuner path and start absorbing some of the Youtube Tutorials....
