well, it all depends on all of the facts- how bad is the bump, how fast were you going, etc.

What's to say you didnt hit the brakes after the front wheels went over shortening the front suspension while you were over it? Carpark design is a very tricky thing- I generally dont get into it, far safer getting a traffic design specialist in, just for that reason.

When we design carparks, ramps, driveways etc. the worst thing you can hear is that damage happened on your design because you know it is going to be looked at and scruitinized to within an inch of its life.

The worst thing you could of done was to start it when you got it home as the oil would of drained out of the engine by the time you started it at a guess your looking at bearings and a crank regrind so ya might aewell give it a new set of rings wile its apart to make sure the jobs done properly instead of half a job.

If you can be bothered look into the Roads Management Act 2004. It may cover carparks. It may also be worth speaking to the planning department, about conditions of maintenance of the carpark. Maccas has responsibility as any bumps or holes are pedestrian hazards as well and is is a road hump ? Was it signed, highlighted etc ? Within spec of that set out on the planning permit ?

I recently read a thread on here or the sister forum that a bloke cracked his sump in a shopping centre car park and the centre paid through insurance.

But finally, for god sakes why the heck are you speeding in a maccas car park ? I find it hard to feel sorry for you.......but deep down i do cause its a real pain. But still theres jack **** room in maccas car park and you still mananged to speed, were you racing for the 10.30 breakfast menu deadline ?

well it wasnt exclusively a maccas car park as there are other things there too...
it was sort of 30 metres from maccas...
its hard to desribe but it was left of maccas and there isnt any shops or anything around there its just a road to get through to a main road (sorry if this doesnt make sence)
dont worry i know that i was in the wrong by speeding so im not looking for simpithy :)

Look, you gotta track down where it is, whos it is, council, body corporate, retail, and then if it is the councils road, councils or road authorities have some responsibility, and need to have inplace maintenance procedures and inspection routine, they are now under Roads Management Act 2004 responsible also for defects in roads they didn't know about, but can be covered from criminal liability etc if they did have procedures in place to monitor and look for these things. But they still have a responsibility regardless, and compensation is not out of the question.

If its private or retail, its more a planning issue, did they highlight the bump if it is a splitter island or something, take pictures, document and record.

Look a year ago, when i put on my new shockers, i was driving the normal 50-60 and i was with my missus and i go hey look how they have asphalted the road, and then all of a sudden bang ! F'in put in new raised asphalt road humps and hadn't line marked em or put on the white tabs to highlight them when just installed. They put 3 around the area, i wasnt familiar as we were visiting someone. You could not see the road humps, just looked like all asphalt and flat on the road. I took pix just in case my shockers were f'ed and and if i had issues the installer wouldnt fix etc. Nothing has happened to this day.
