That’s interesting. I wonder if the HSV cars are under the same approval number? If so, I assume that the HSV brakes would also be a bolt-on-and-go option?

Well I am questioning this advice as the guy did not seem very confident...

Get it in writing from him.....that will tell you how confident he actually is in his advice.

I asked lol
He said he could not do that and then said I should speak to an engineer

This means that my car (SS Black) is not considered the same 'variant' under RMS guideliness and that redline spec brembo brake upgrade requires engineering certificate to be 100% legal. Dumb...but that's just how it is...I even have larger booster/bmc.

Called RMS and they were no help. Could not tell me anything specific...
Referred me back to guide on their web page..

I am not sure what you are reading but I don't believe you are correct. But there is a little bit of ambiguity in the applicable rules but it's not that complicated. However:

1. Provided the brake calipers you fit are exactly those fitted to the VF redline; and

2. Provided that all other components of the braking system that go with the Brembo brake system fitted to the VF Redline are fitted as well, you will not need engineering certification to upgrade to the Redline spec brakes. If the VF Brembos require a different brake booster than that component fitted to your car you will have to upgrade that as well to the same spec. Anything else that is different such as the brake Master cylinder, if that was a different spec, you would have to change that also.

The above is perfectly consistent with the general and specific provisions in the guidelines contained in the NSW RMS Vehicle Standards Information Bulletin 6 of 2013 (the latest).

First, there is a general provision in there that states that certification is not required for modifications that involve the replacement of parts or components "with parts or components with equivalent functional performance." (page 2 VSI 6). They further state that this provision applies to all of the items covered in the following pages which includes brakes.

Second, if you look at the examples given under "Brakes", item 16,page8), fitting VF Redline brake components in their entirety to any other VF Commodore, even the base model, would conform with the guidelines of items NOT requiring certification.

In summary, provided you upgrade the braking system in its entirety to the VF Redline spec you will not need certification in NSW.

I should add that you are going to have to declare the brake upgrade to your insurer if you go ahead with it because it is a vehicle modification that requires disclosure under most comprehensive car insurance policies. . I would definitely NOT do a DIY job on this but have it done by a competent brake specialist and get a detailed receipt for the work.

Thank you for that info.
I just sent RMS tech an email with specific details to clarify this. I want to be 100% sure before I go ahead with this.
I would most certainly get mechanic to do this and have the invoice. I would also tell my insurer as well. I wanna do this right and learn along the way.

My car already has booster and BMC upgrade as on Redline as it was optioned with the 'Police brake upgrade'. ie. 345mm front rotors.

I just spoke to my insurer today, about my impending CTS-V upgrade...I merely mentioned 'six piston Brembo' and the guy on the other end said, "straight out of the CTS-V, yes?". He didn't hesitate to apply the insurance, because he said it was a GM part anyway.

I would suggest, that insurance won't be a problem, especially with Australian-homologated parts....
