Basically what the Bench seat optioned VR~VS vehicles had (regardless of it being a wagon, sedan or ute) was a HQ ~ WB Handbrake assembly and nothing like the more modern cars had which weren't in the way when in the on position except when you were thinking of some hanky panky at the drive in. It is what is called a free wheeling handbrake set up, thus your lever is always returned to the lower position regardless whether its in the on or off position. Obviously this dopey mechanic seems to know nothing about any vehicle pre 1985 and thus requires to be re-educated at his expense and not yours for the re-check and clearing of the vehicle.

I'd hate to see him find the handbrake in a LH ~ LX Torana ???
