I had half a tank of fuel then I drove on a dirt road. At the end of the road I noticed the gauge was all the way down and the fuel light came on.
There are no leaks and the car still drives but Im not sure what might have come loose on that bloody road.

Check the plug at the Fuel Sender Unit. See if its connected.
Also to check fuel guage operation disconnect plug and bridge a paper clip into it. Turn ignition to on and Fuel Giage needle should move up to full. If it does this then fuel guage is good. I think it's highly unlikely that its the fuel guage itself. But check plug and wiring.

Try hitting the top of the dash above the cluster, as the connections for the dash could be a little loose fitting. Happened all the time in our VS & VR wagons temp and fuel gauges would not work until we gave the dash a tap.
