So I had to go in an pick up my car finally, the mechanic is in Takanini.

$1.579 to fill up the Falcon with 91, can't recall the E10 fot the commodore but it was around $1.70

Filled up the diesel ute, 90.9

Filled up the farm car as well but that was at $1.619 in Pukekohe, to fill out fuel cans was around $38 not so long ago so I was pleased when it was only $28 this time.

Happy days!

I found this article in Forbes. It was written in Aug '14. The guy predicted that cheap oil was on its way. He states the main contributing factors are;

- USA has ended a moratorium on allowing oil companies to seismic analyse continental shelf off of the southern Atlantic coast, where oil is believed to be plentiful and cheap to access. Essentially allowing access to vast untapped oil resources.
- Mexico is privatising their own oil production and are now contracting out access to their own 60 billion barrel reserves. They have state monopolised their oil for the last 75 years

If those two factors remain in continuum, low prices will be here for a few years yet.

The downside of the low oil price is that there are likely to be a lot of oil and gas workers in Australia and NZ out of work soon. Exploration will be wound down as the return on investment is not there anymore with the lower prices. Already some of the major oil and gas companies have had their share prices halved over the last few months.
