I've just been told if you run a vr empty you screw the fuel pump and have to replace it, is there any truth to this.

Thanks

Yes and No.

If you run it empty you will shorten the life of the fuel pump considerbly as the fuel is what cools it down and "maintains" it.
But most likely it'll be fine to start again after you get the fuel back in the line. (flat ground and half a tank should start it)

Its also not good for the injectors

How much petrol did you put in the tank?

You might need atleast half a tank so the pump has a bit of preasure behind it.
Idle it till shes warm then give her a few revs to get any air out

Its also possible that the pumps sucked up the crap off the bottom of the tank and lodged it into the filter, restricting the flow.

nah itl be fine to be towed.

chuck her in nutral and away you go.
just remember to use ur handbrake instead of the foot pedal to stop. (pull it up slowly ect...)
dont rely on the foot brakes while the engines not running

Code 46 could be the CAS (Crank Angle Sensor). It is a pretty common fault but seems a bit too coincidental to play up all of a sudden.

Try this:

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key just before you start the car?

Let me know the answer to that question and we can go from there. Check all fuses, especially those related to the fuel pump and try swapping the fuel pump relays (Fuel pump and EFI relay). Hopefully youve just blown a fuse.

Remove the 20A engine fuse for a couple of seconds. This will clear the error codes. Recheck the codes and make sure they have gone and all that shows is error 12. Try and start the car. After a couple of cranks recheck the codes and see if that error 46 came back. If not, ignore it for now. It so, let us know.
