Even though this is an OLD thread I thought I would post for future reference a quick and dirty way I used to remove the fuel filter (with NO DAMAGE to the high pressure lines) on my VT Equipe and another VT Executive. I bought a fuel line remove kit from super cheap, the tool does the job but if there is no room to push the tool over the steel pipe of most replacement filters, if this is the case for you then you need to take a more "agricultural" approach:
Assuming you have:
1. Discharge the fuel line by pulling the fuel pump fuse and starting the car, it should die after a short time. Turn ignition off and put fuse back in.
2. Jacked up the car and removed the drivers side rear wheel in a safe manor to gain easy access to the fuel filter without the car dropping on your legs, head or body.
Process:
1. Turn fuel filter around a few time while holding the fuel connectors to break/loosen the seal a bit.
2. Get a hack saw with a good blade and cut as close to the body of the filter so you just have the steel line going into each fuel line connector. Should take about 1 minute per side. Watch for leaking fuel.
3. Slip the correct size removal tool over the steel line and push it into the fuel line connector while turning it to engage the locking tangs.
4. Use long nose plies, grab the steel pipe, gently pull it free while holding removal tool in place. Do other connector in same way.
5. Install new filter

6. Start car and check all is OK.
The actual process took me less than 5 minutes and i've now done 2 VT's this way.
