We drove to Melbourne from Campbelltown in NSW and we filled up in Wangaratta which is about 570km and it wasn’t on empty (just hitting the red)but had no idea where next fuel was. I was pretty impressed for. 6ltr V8 get that economy.

With my 2012 Calais L77 Sportwagon with AFM,
I usually can get at least approx. 600 k/m from a tank on a run on a open road.
Keeping in mind, that always depends on how heavy the right hand foot is !

Yep, know those roads well, live in the Manawatu.
I normally go Makirikiri Rd and avoid Marton when i go to Wanganui.
That makes a lot of sense coming from Halcombe, but coming from the north it would be debatable.

I've got the ssv auto and I can get from mid north coast nsw to canberra on one tank, which is 660kms. That's on cruise control the whole way with some pretty big hills, just accelerate a little before you hit them. It gets 8-9L/ 100km.

That is the best place to fill up, as there is a few morepetrol stations further down the Hume just below Seymour.
