Thanks to all you guys who made this thread really helpful.

Will try to change my partner's VT rear disks ASAP.

Cheers and regards.

When doing pads, after a few weeks I developed a squeaking that has not gone away, what could be the cause of this?
Is it because I may have braked hard too early or something?

I can see clearly one of my rotors (back left) is REALLY worn, could this be the cause?

Did you measure them to make sure they were still within serviceable spec?

What brand of brake pad are you using?

They were only cheap ones at the time like 70 bucks for the set. Could that cause the squeaking? Cheap brakes? I put more expensive ones on the front though.
I just changed them because it was an urgent need and I needed the car.
I notice that the squeak only occurs once they're warmer (after 10-15 minutes of driving) and when braking to a complete stop.

ive read on another thread (can not find it now) that when taking of the calipers you need to use new bolts when bolting them back on and need locktight

ive order new bolts from holden yesterday ($25.80 later for fronts) VY calais

and went to supercheap to get the mild locktight as well

picked the bolts up today and i see theres blue stuff on the threads already, does this mean they come with locktight already on them or should i still use the lock tight

thanks

Yes use thread locker if you have it. If you don't no big deal so long as they are torqued they are fine. I did Honda brake pads a few weeks ago and there's non at all on a 2013 car.
Using the same bolts is ok also. You'd find most mechanics won't replace them unless the heads are stuffed.

And the blue on the Holden bolts is pre applied loctite. But keep the bottle you will need it again at some point.

ok thanks ive done a complete rotors (gold street series rotors) and pads to suit change

when it says in the manual 80 -90 nm then 1/2 a turn, what does that mean, do i torque both bolts to 80nm then repeat to 90nm plus half turn?

Torque it between 80-90 nm till it clicks. Then tighten it another half a turn. I've always accepted 3 grunts a good torque when I had no torque wrench. That's for the caliper brackets not the caliper pin bolts.

all done

just thought to add,may help others, if people find 19mm a bit sloppy for the bolts on the calipers mounting brackets try the old school 50's 60's 70's 11/16 Whitworth size (just need a slight tap on but no movement at all)

fits much better even on the brand new bolts from holden, the 19mm was sloppy under tension (slips)

or maybe my 90's 19mm sidchrome socket is worn

im lucky enough to have my dads old sidchrome sets from the 50's 60's 70's, i find the old Whitworth sizes fit better then most metric sizes on HQ'S escorts and now my 2004 vy calais
