Well its 2014 and there are still alot of these out there. I'm a bit weary at times of this gearbox as my last car the tranny died at 180k. I'm looking at a mint V8 with this tranny but it has 225k.

Only second owner and good history. How reliable has yours been up till now?

Got 275k on our 4L6x behind a super 6 and it's tight as a drum.

I have had a few with over 400,000km in the past with no dramas.

Contrary to popular belief, they are a very very strong trans.

the most common issue for them is overheating/slipping due to worn fluid from not having regular fluid changes or the radiator tank splitting letting coolant into the ATF killing the trans.

The actual transmission's themselves are relatively bulletproof

Mine (albeit being a v6) is still going fairly strong at 211,xxxkm and I do have a large trans cooler fitted.

Got 190k on mine with over 20k of that being FI. Hasn't skipped a beat. It has been beefed up a tad, not much though, also with plenty of cooling.

Up to 187,000 on mine and still shifts great, sitting behind a tuned ls1. I understand your concern, but with frequent fluid changes they seem to be quiet reliable. Also not that expensive to repair or replace in the event of failure (relatively speaking).

EDIT: I have been told that a couple of things can prolong the life of these transmissions: a good transmission cooler, and a tune making the shifts slightly firmer although not savage (this actually helps to avoid the slip mentioned above).

Mines fine behind the 500hp motor. Stock box with stock convertor and it doesn't get babied. Has a reasonable size cooler though.
