I was thinking of putting my laptop in the dash - simply cut the space needed and whack it in. Thats not a problem. However what would be cool is if -
a) i can hook the AC up to the car battery?
b) i can hook the 2 speaker line-out to the car speakers?

The way i see it, why bother getting a 7" DVD player, when ive got a 15" laptop? Why bother changing CD's when you have a 30GB hard-drive?

Any suggestions on how i can get that done?

Thanks

Alright, well here goes.....In response to your two questions.

a) You would need to use a power convertor, about 500W would be acceptable, although the laptop won't need this much, it will require it for initial start-up
b)It's not a simple case of hooking the speakers up to the line out. I really need to know what sort of stereo you already have......

Do you have an amp?
if yes, does the amp run ALL of the car speakers?
Does your current headunit have RCA inputs?
Does your laptop have speaker outputs or lineout?

Yeh connecting it to the lighter was what i had in mind, just wasnt sure how i go about converting the power. What you guys have said so far sounds great.

as for sound, i dont hav an amp at the moment, may have one installed eventually (tight budget!)

For the moment id prob. just sit it in the dash, powered by the lighter. And you think i can get a converter for under $150?

If it has lineout you can get a 3.5mm to RCA adaptor for 5-6 dollars.

One thing to contemplate is where are you going to put it?

And I guess if its your main laptop you'll always be taking it out of the car with you when your done I hope- thats not always possible.

Why would you bother thoug..... I mean yes you have bigger screen for movies but imagine parking it and having to carry a laptop around with you.... Imagine the size of the hole you would have to cut......

Just do what I do and watch movies at home....

I'm not sure about your laptop but most have side entry for cd's dvd's etc. so access would be difficult. Your idea sounds sweet but I think a cool headunit would be the trip for ya.

It'd do the job.

CD access on the side... WTF would you need a cd for when you have a laptop. Hence the point of it.
