From what l've read on these forums, theres a fuse type thing on the positive battery terminal. That blows, & by blowing it should protect all the other circuits?
So replace it with a good one from the wreckers or Holden service centre.

It’s a computer network. Reversing the polarity is going cook a lot of modules. Smoke from the vents would be cooked headunit or hvac module.

Any toasted modules will begin a huge headache of gremlins and major faults. There are a lot of VIN matched modules in VE.
