I just saved over a grand by registering and insuring my daughters Corolla in my name. It cost me about $150 extra over my normal insurance premiums to list her as a second driver. With her listed as a second driver, our arses are covered.
This means that the insurance was cheaper, but she still gets credit as a driver, so in a few years she will have earned full no claim bonuses. Hopefully by the time she reaches 21 in 5 years she will have an open license and full no claim bonuses. Insurance will be affordable for her then, and thats when we are aiming for her to buy her own brand new car in her own name.
