Hi,

I have put an intercooler on my VR V6 Commodore that i S/C (the intercooler can in the kit). Although i does look MEAN:yeah:, I undertand what their function is but it doesn't seem to do much for the performance other than cause a bit of lag.

What do you think about intercoolers with supercharged motors?

anything that keeps your car cooler is never a bad thing mate. Just because you arent noticing a difference doesnt mean its not extending the life before it blows up.

I was under the impression that you could run higher boost pressures with a intercooler? Or that after you went over a certain level of boost you needed one. Not sure though, I'm sure someone more switched on will shed some light.

if the plumbing is too big you will get a lot more lag also depends what pulley youre running.I presume its an SC14.with the cooler you can run more boost and run a little more timing and fuel

running the cooler is deffinatly worth it

allows you to run higher boost without detonation etc

Ok. thanks.

Next question:

Is there a significant disadvantage to plumbing the intercooler to the intake of the charger?

I understand the compressor air heat effect generated within the SC (resulting in slightly higher output air temp) but if that temperature can be reduced prior to entering the SC, will that give the same effect?

That would allow you to run a much larger tube straight to the manifold (i.e Zero Lag). And enable me to facilitate the use of my CAI correctly by plumbing that to the IC inlet

Anyone experimented with this?

Cheers

I think the problem with that is the supercharger generates a bit of heat so if the air is getting cooled before the supercharger rather than supercharger-intercooler-engine, the air will get re-heated again going through the supercharger.

Ok, cheers.

Well i've bought some 3" Stainless Tubing, i'll plumb it up when this other TB arrives that i've ordered to mount infront of the SC and let you know how it goes.
