Don't know if this helps, but I've run a Nintendo 64 (Don't laugh-my kids have a mean dad!!) and Voxson screen Off a Dick Smith inverter for years without problems. Specs are 50Hz nominal and Modified Sine Wave, 230-240 v AC, 150Watts. Inverters are a lot cheaper now, so get a big one.

I have a Dickies 300W inverter. It has a crap surge of only 310W so, the in-rush current that some equipment have isn't a great one, but I got it cheap. Like Garth said, Dickies staff don't even know what a capacitor is. Go to a place where they know their stuff.
Jaycar have some good inverters and their ones have a good surge on them. I'd buy a true sine wave off them if they were cheaper. :bang:

As always dont be playing your games too long without the car running, the xbox and inverter can start to suck a good amount of current and your car battery wont have enough to get you home.
