I wouldn't say DRL's are useless during the day.

They help with being seen. It's the exact same reason motorbikes legally have to have lights on during the day. To help with being seen. (Though not a legal requirement for cars...... Yet.....).

As for having them on at night. Why? They will add no visibility benefit and will do nothing more than pee off other road users.

If the other road users are anal enough to be checking the fact that they're dim 20W lights rather than dimmer 10W lights, then said road users deserve to be pissed off.
It's not possible for the other road users to be dazzled by such dim lights, when there are 65W headlights so close to them ... but if they're wound so tight as to be offended by something like this, they deserve to be offended.

I agree there's absolutely no functional point, it's 100% about "looking cool".

Why would dimmed DRL's bother anyone at night? It's driving lights that can get annoying.

Part of the discussion above was about bodging it up, so the undimmed DRL's could be on while headlights were on.

However, the lack of night time difference between dimmed & undimmed DRL's when headlights are would be such that the only people who'd be annoyed would be the Eternally Outraged; they'll be annoyed regardless of wattage, they're annoyed because others aren't wearing their cardigan in the appropriate shade of beige.

just for looks really no other reason. I don't see what purpose they serve during the day at least at night they "could" light up the road a bit better..

I've got a GenF R8 Clubsport, can't even see them on the road at all, unless the headlights are turned off, they definitely look better thou when dimmed at night

Strictly for safety purposes headlights are probably more effective for being seen during the day than DRLs. DRLs do add to the wank factor though. Not all motorbikes have to have lights on during the day. ADRs for motorbikes built after a certain date, however have the lights on automatically. Having DRLs on at night adds even more to the wank factor.

The ADR was changed for motor bikes some years back. Motor bikes are no longer required to have the headlight on at all time. statistics proved it made no difference to motor bike crashes at all. Logic would tell us it makes a difference and can be seen easier but the stats say it is not the case.

Interesting. So now we light up all the cars and turn the lights off on bikes.

I find that lights at a distance make it more difficult to judge that distance, and speed.
More likely to see something with lights, but harder to tell how far away it is or how fast it's going.
The confusionism probably isn't as big a thing with cars, as the lights are a much smaller percentage of frontal area.
