Hi I joined just Commodores forum a couple of years ago when I bought a VT Berlina.

I got into an accident and lost the car. A victim of neglect.

I was really upset but now I have a VE Berlina 2006 Holden and I feel better.

I would like to open this thread for you guys to help me with my car.

I need advice on getting a new head unit.

Any ideas for how to accomplish that in advice for how I can go about getting a head unit? I love music a lot. And I love my car a lot too.

Please also let me know what I can do and where I can get decals.

Thanks guys.
I would love to do my car up with you're direction please if you have the time.

I got the car for $4400. And it came with rwc and it drives well.

Basically with a VE you have two options, an Aerpro facia unit that allows you to buy a seperate double din unit to put in it or a complete Alpine head unit.

Either option is expensive but from what I’ve heard the Alpine unit might be the better choice as a lot of people have issues with the Aerpro facia controlling the HVAC properly.

Don’t put stickers all over it. Looks like cheese.

Basically with a VE...
Yep, exactly what J_D 2.0 said.

I have the Alpine and it works well.
If I can give you one bit of important advice - get it installed by people who know what they are doing. I have both seen and heard of the VE HVAC going completely bonkers by incorrect (usually cheap) installs. Stay away from well-meaning mates (unless of course they are specialists in this field). See also this post from just the other day.

And now i'm doing my 'Dad speech'.

Questions to ask them: (you can ask you own regarding unit performance etc, I'm not covering that).
- Have you installed this specific unit before?
- Do they understand that the VE HVAC effectively runs off (controlled by) the head unit?
- What, if any, problems might I expect to have, and are there fixes?
- Others can add questions here ->

You sound like you want the best for this car and gotta admire that... so treat it well. You will find some gr8 people here that have far more PRACTICAL experience than me. Use them, they are usually eager to help, as long as they know you are also prepared to help yourself too.

The Aerpro thing is hit and miss, Some people have a fair few troubles others have minor. I'm one that has had minor issues and only two or three times in over two years. Each time I was able to reset it myself. They can be finicky around losing power, which can require a few resets to get them working again. I'm happy with mine it's been great. I've heard the Alpine unit is a lot more expensive but I never looked into prices. Don't come under the illusion the Alpine unit is without problems either as they too have issues at times on VE's.

It would be worth getting something with Android or Apple too. I never did as I didn't really need or want it but kinda wishing I did now. HU stick to Pioneer or Alpine as they are decent. Other brands just don't have the same clean signal. Pioneer are really easy to install a camera, not sure if you already have one or not?

True and true. The Alpine units are more expensive and they are certainly not without their issues. If I could, I’d have the Alpine H/U but the Aerpro HVAC control. The Aerpro HVAC looks to me like it is simpler and easier to control. The Alpine is fancy and TBH, in my opinion, bloody stupid. I find it frustrating and it looks like a graduate got bored working at Alpine one day… and came up with that design while sniffing something. Good design (especially interfaces) should be simple for us to use. Have the flashy crap if u must but let me turn it off!
