So ive been doing some diff work installing a spool and having fun doing all that, the issue i have is ive put the minispool over the shaft just to double check its the right fit, and now i cant get it off..... Has one of those little circular clips internally between the minispool and the shaft, had no issues getting it out of the diff originally with a bit of leverage but struggling to get it out of the spool.

have used a solid thick bearing puller to no avail and actually snapped one of the grips on the bearing puller (10mm thick mild steel)

Have also attempted alot of hammering with a raw hide mallet and a copper mallet

Any suggestions appreciated:)))

Hit it with a punch from the other side.
Failling that you will need a slide hammer.
I hope the ring didn't split going in or you'll be having some fun times :)
When the split you need to file the splines back down with a mini triangle file.

No offence but putting that snake oil on is going to do nothing.
It's a mechanical lock, there's a C clip that locks into a groove, sometimes they can be stiff, sometimes when you hit it in the C clip jamms between the splines and locks them up.
No magical juice is going to help with that.

Yep I know its clip lock like cv shafts have ... if its dry jammed oil wont do it any harm... another option is put it in the oven and warm it up ...then have a go at it... and no im not suggesting you bake it either...just get it warmed up...lol

Cheers shane ill give that a crack, I've at least got spare rings so hopefully i can at least bash it out without hurting the splines too much. already been a world of fun taking a diff apart for the first time so always keen for more :p

I will say though that diff or engine oil helps preventing the C-clip from locking up in the splines.

I once had a battle with a BA falcon diff.....

Throw the spool in the bin - standard issue with sub par parts.

This happens when they haven’t machined the groove properly and it’s too deep or the incorrect profile.

Wouldn't heating it up cause the metal to expand and get even tighter?

Indeed but it depends on what heat up. Just applying some heat to the spool should make that grow more than the stub shaft.
