ended up buying a BA GT with 5 speed manual, got it for a good price can't complain and the condition was much better than any XR i looked at.

Son I am disappoint.

but BA GTs are big fat slugs son, and a 5 speed? u dun goofed.

You need to educate yourself.

The BA GT's in 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC where slugs. Simply because that gearbox sucked the life from them. The manuals are leaps and bounds ahead, with their better gear ratios and final drive.

well stock when new the BA GT 5 speed did 13.9's in the magazine tests and some 14.0 flats so that not really slow, this one has exhaust, CAI and diff gears and it goes really well and cruises fine, the springs are on the soft side but thats an easy fix
and for the price i got it for was VY SS money and really good condition and low km's, i can't complain try getting a VY R8 for under $15k thats not clapped out

OP wants a car he can track and have fun in, you suggest an under power slug (3V heads are homo).
