Can anybody here recommend a scanner that is known to work with VX V6 (3.8).
I have one that I obtained from Repco, quite a while ago, and it does not seem to be reliable with it's (in)ability to connect to the system every time.

Thanks for the replies.

Although my "ride" is shown as VT Wagon, the vehicle I am enquiring about is a 2003 3.8L V6 VX Series Calais.
Service literature suggests that from VT Series 2 to VZ use the OBDII system.

What I asked is: "Can anybody here recommend a scanner that is known to work with VX V6 (3.8)"

It really depends on the $'s you wish to spend.
they can start from $1,500 > $5,000+
A Tech2 would work ok, I read on JC's a few members have purchased them online [they are between $500 > $700 for a clone] and have been happy with them, and work well.
I have a Autel unit and it does most of the Cars on the road, but only use it for Holden.

Thanks, 'krusing'.

I will investigate those you mentioned.

My own searching found this one at https://www.auscanners.com.au/vident-i400au-obd-aldl-scan-tool-for-holden-profes , said to be "Compatible with ALDL, OBDI & OBDII vehicles"

Does anybody know about, or have any experience with, this one?

Thanks again.
I have one. Works ok.
You can't reprogram clusters with it. But, l was told you can program clusters from ve - vf.

It will read all the the modules, erase codes, if repairs have been made. ex. Broken clockspring, & you have the airbag light on. Replace the clockspring with a working one, & you will be able to erase the code.

It will work on aldl, & obd11 cars.

They use ALDL.

Not OBD2..
Is ALDL an 8 pin set up ? This is the port on my 2002 VX wagon and I’m struggling to find a compatible adapter to OBD2

That should be a OBDII socket.

The socket is OBDII but the protocol for communications varies.

All BCMs are ALDL
V6 ECUs are ALDL
Holden 5L V8 are ALDL
LS1 ECU are OBDII ELM327.

So if you have a LS1 you need both cables/software.
