Ahhh the good ole which oil question.... Ask 100 different people you will likely get 100 different answers lol I personally run Penrite hpr 5 in my L98 and it's good stuff, it sounds like your engine isn't liking the oil you've put in it as the others have said try going to a lighter viscosity oil and see how it goes

Thanks mate. So your saying if my VE has high milage. A thinner oil suites better? I've just clicked over 186000klms. I've only had my ute for 8 months it's obviously been came up. But I have no idea what else has been done to it. Showing 340klwrw on dyno. Would just a cam upgrade push it to that amount of klws?

People generally use thicker oils as the mileage gets higher.

If you're getting noisy lifters, I would go something a little thinner, 10w40 and see if the noise disappears. If it does, (change it out within a few 100kms) then change it to 10w50 and see what goes. You're engine will tell you when its happy.

noisy lifters can be too thin oil or too thick
in your case i think you are using too thick oil

Shop put magnatec 10-40 when I had my cam done in my ls2, gone to Castrol edge 5-30 now and engine is a lot quieter and feels heaps smoother , 84000 on the clock.
