Ok, I've had enough of this car. In the few years that I've owned it, I've spent more on repairs that I did to buy it!

Anyway, we went for a drive today, got out of the car, but couldn't lock it with the remote. I lock it manually. Go back to the car, can't unlock it. Unlock it manually. Can't start car. Immobiliser light still flashing. Leave it on reds for 2 hours, start car & drive it home. Until then, I had no issues with the key, and no sign of the key battery going flat.

I replaced the BCM with a second hand one in April this year because of the same problem, and the car was fine.

Is there anything I can do, other than replacing the BCM again, to get this car going? Can the immobiliser be removed? If I can't fix it myself, the car is gone :(

Have you actually replaced the key head to eliminate this problem?

I replaced the key head last time, but it didn't help. The problem I'm having now is no different to the problem I had when I replaced the BCM in April. I'm hesitant to spend another $100 on a key head that doesn't fix the problem.

Is the metal ring around the ignition barrel ok?, though that would not explain the nil unlock/lock action.

You could always try change the battrey you're self.
$5 for 2 new key head shell's off ebay.
$2.40 for a new battrey with leg's already attached.
$7.40 total cost. Even come's with 2 new key blade's.

Rip old key head apart and throw it(keep circut board)
The unsolder old batt, And solder in new. Very easy
All done.

I did this not too long ago.
I will never pay top dollar for a key again.

Maby worth a shot before throwing the car away.

try disconnecting battery
press brake pedal for one minute
then reconnect battery
a lot of the early VT tended to get glitches in the BCM
